Today we’d like to introduce you to Jelina Shah.
Hi Jelina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been overweight since I was five years old. I have a family history of Type 2 diabetes. My dad has it as well as several uncles. Unfortunately, one of my uncles passed due to complications related to diabetes. I was 65 pounds overweight and sitting in a doctor’s office. My doctor walked in and was shaking her head, saying “It isn’t a matter of if, but a matter of WHEN you will get diabetes”. I was shocked and felt ashamed. I did some research and did a low-calorie, low-fat diet for years, which helped me lose some weight, but I was starving. I was only eating 1200 calories a day and working out 1-2 hours most days of the week. The worst part was that I remained overweight. Years later, a friend introduced me to losing my weight through mindset. I did research and found that my hormones were influencing my weight. I lost the 65 pounds and kept it off. When I was working as a pharmacist with patients with uncontrolled diabetes, I noticed that they were also having struggles similar to mine. I introduced the techniques to them, and they had fantastic results like reversing their diabetes, getting off of medications like insulin, losing weight, and feeling energized.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish the transition was smooth!! Being trained as a pharmacist, shifting to a mindset of an entrepreneur is whole new world! Medical training doesn’t leave a lot of room for failure or “not knowing” and that is center stage for entrepreneurship. I’ve never run a business, created a website, or run a social media campaign. Now I’m a one-woman show! I’ve learned to take my failures and turn them into feedback. A podcast interview where the interviewer had no idea who I was or what I did became a lesson in patience. An Instagram reel where someone called me annoying became an opportunity for self-love and compassion. Being in business for myself has become a type of exposure therapy as all the things I feared the most have been in the forefront. I spent many years in my youth bullied because I looked different, smelled different (I am Indian and grew up in a household full of wonderful spices that were foreign to many of my peers), was overweight, and had culture and traditions that were uncommon. I found myself hiding who I am and trying to fade into the background, but in this day and age, owning a business requires you to be visible on every platform. I have had to face many uncomfortable situations, which have helped me grow as a person.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

My plan is to continue to grow this business and help as many people become healthy so they don’t have to struggle like I did. I would love to plan a healthy retreat where we can get together, eat delicious foods, have fun playing on the beach, dance, connect and learn. I would love to have a community so people who are experiencing a run-in with chronic diseases like Diabetes do not feel isolated or alone.
