Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilee Moore.
Hi Emilee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My family has always been musical. I started classical piano training at the age of six and took lessons for 11 years. I also grew up in the church, so I was drawn to music in that environment as well. I was a band kid in school and loved to sing too! I think deep down, I always knew I would do something in music when I grew up, but I didn’t have the confidence to actually give it a real shot… until I finally did. I started working with my producer a year before he moved to LA (from Vancouver, Canada, our hometown) and the minute I started writing and recording songs with him it felt like all the life I had lost came back to me. I was in university at the time and had no real idea what to do with myself or my future. Once my producer moved to LA, I promised myself I would figure out a way to get out here too. And sure enough, a year later, I hopped off the plane at LAX 🙂 Ever since then, I’ve been writing music, releasing music, learning about the marketing world of music, and enjoying everything that I’ve had the chance to experience out here. I’ve learned so much about myself and I’m so happy I took a chance and believed in myself. And here I am now!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not. One. Bit. Moving to a new country is a huge commitment. Let alone all of the hassle that comes with it. And then to do that and enter an industry I knew very little about was extremely daunting. I also moved into a 2 bedroom apartment with four guys when I came out here so that in and of itself was its own little struggle. I would still say to this day it’s a struggle to know what the right move is in this industry and how to make the greatest impact as an artist while trying to figure out how to make enough to live. But I think the beauty of being an artist is the struggle. It’s getting up every day and choosing to believe that this is where you belong and this is what you’re meant to do. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist and songwriter! And I love it so, so much. I would say I specialize in heartbreak. I love sharing my personal stories of heartache in hopes that it helps others feel less alone in their heartbreak. I relied a lot on music when I was in the thick of my sadness, and I really want to make music that can do that for others. I just recently went up in a hot air balloon to perform a song that I wrote for my grandma who passed away, while also honoring many other lives we’ve lost as well and it’s probably the thing I’m most proud of in my career so far. Or if people cry at my shows, that makes me proud too. It means they felt something and my voice or my words meant something to them. And that means the world to me. I guess I would say what sets me apart from others is that I blend my artistry with the influencer/creator world. I think there’s so much room for artists to exist in the “creator” space beyond just music and I’m always looking for ways I can reach a greater audience by combining those worlds.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a terrible book reader and I would always rather listen to music than a podcast! But I do love certain kinds of poetry and I think music is a huge resource for me in what I do too. Combining different influences of what music I love and what songs have had an impact on me makes the best, most emotional songs.
