Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Close.
Daisy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Looking back at my childhood, I realize how much music truly played a huge role in my life. It influenced so many morals in myself as an individual, but most importantly, it gave me an outlet to express myself as an artist and my own unique way to experience my own happiness to its fullest extent. Growing up as an only child left me with no choice but to entertain myself, so I found myself always writing music, singing, and dancing in my room for my mom or stuffed animals. I would put on full performances. I had choreography down to a T, glittery outfits—I’m talking the whole package. I was a Hannah Montana and Kidz Bop die-hard fan. I remember watching Hannah Montana on DVD on our old beat-up DVD player since my family didn’t have cable over and over again and begging my mom to take me to McDonald’s every week to get the newest Kidz Bop Album CDs in their happy meals. For my eighth birthday, I got a Kidz Bop DVD that taught all of the choreography in their music videos, and I was hooked. I spent hours dancing alongside the TV, learning all of their numbers. My family didn’t have much, but looking back, it was always the simplest things in life that meant the most to me and brought me the most joy.
Years later, I realized how much music resonated with me and was almost like my safe haven. I was really shy as a young kid in elementary school, and I often had a hard time socializing with other students and making friends. I never paid attention to the things I wore or other materialistic things in life, but public school quickly made me aware of a completely different world than what I had been used to living in for so long growing up. I was teased and sucked into a world of peer pressure by the people around me. Music reminded me to love myself for the way I am, and it gave me hope when I felt like I never fit in with the rest. Music has always brought so much purpose and light into my life. I have the biggest love and passion for music. It’s a kind of unbreakable bond that still holds a strong grip on me to this day. I wish my life could’ve stayed that simple and happy, but alas, we all have to grow up and leave the innocence and fantasy of our youth someday. I have an abundance of happy memories from my childhood because of music, and I often find myself reminiscing on those moments even later on in my life. I’ll never forget my childhood because it has built the foundation I now stand on as a rising artist. Oftentimes people say, You’re a teenager; you’re still so young, but it just doesn’t feel that way to me because I’ve been pursuing this career, whether it was intentional or not, since the beginning of time.
As I grow older, I’ve come to learn that it can be difficult at times to follow your dreams when the world isn’t always too accepting and cheerful about the idea of pursuing a career you have little to no chance of succeeding in. But through trial and error, I have learned better than to let the world’s views and opinions distract me from what I know in my heart is my destiny because when you know something in your heart, you can’t ignore or escape that feeling because you know it’s something more than you, and there’s nothing anyone can do or say to make it ever go away. I’ve come to learn that nothing can get in the way of your dreams as long as you know in your heart and soul what you’re meant to do in this world. That’s the magic we hold inside as individuals when we believe we are capable of achieving all of our dreams so long as we keep going and don’t lose faith even when life decides to challenge us along the way. That’s your destiny’s calling in disguise. It’s testing you to see how badly you want it. To see if you’re really ready for it like you claim you are. It’s destiny knocking at your door, asking you if you’re going to look defeat straight in the eye and keep pushing or if you’re going to step down and give up after one setback. It won’t be easy, but the choice is yours. I’ve always been really close to my mom. She’s my best friend. One thing that’s never changed is that she has always been and will always be my number one fan. She is mine, and I am hers. We complete each other and make each other stronger. I don’t know what I would do without her.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish I could say it’s been smooth sailing, but that would just be unrealistic for any career. There have been several challenges, both big and small. Challenges within my career and in my personal life. But I’ve learned that challenges will always come and go. They’re inevitable. But it’s not about the challenges; it’s about how the challenges challenge you. It’s about what you take away from those challenges, how you use them to strengthen who you are now as an individual, and how you can use them to step into who you want to become. Finances are and have always been one of the biggest challenges for both me and my family.
As I’ve mentioned before, we didn’t grow up with much, but me and my family always made due with what we had. The older I become, the more I realize it’s up to me to support myself and my family at all costs. That means making many sacrifices in both my career and in my personal life as well. I wish I could say I’ve never let finances get in the way of my aspirations, but unfortunately, we live in a society that relies on business, so I’ve had to turn down several career-building opportunities due to the fact that I couldn’t afford them even as hard as I worked to receive them. I used to feel worried and selfish for choosing a one-in-a-million career path because I knew me and my family were already struggling just to make it by, but now I feel empowered to not only make my dreams come true but to provide a better life for my family. It’s a lot of pressure to put on my shoulders, but I know I can do it. I know I can because I’ll work my absolute hardest until I do. I want to fulfill all of my dreams and the dreams my family and generations before me once had for themselves as well.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, and model. Right now, I am focused on completing my debut EP solo album and my debut EP Christmas album. I have been hard at work in the studio, recording for hours and days on end. This has been a huge goal of mine for so long, and I am so happy to finally see it all coming together. Years of work have been put into these two albums I have set to be released in 2023, and it feels so bittersweet and surreal to see it all come to life. I am proud to say that I have written all of the material for all of my upcoming music. I’m not allowed to talk too much about my original music at the moment, but there are lots of surprises to be revealed very soon, so be on the lookout for those announcements on my social media and website. I’m beyond excited to release my music, and I hope you all resonate with it as much as I do.
I’m known for singing a duet with Kelly Clarkson featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show and for being a contestant on the last season of American Idol. I am represented by Eris Talent. I’ve been filming a few secret projects that I’m dying to share with you all. You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out! I’m most proud of my work ethic. The career path of a working singer, songwriter, and actress is so difficult because, the minute you begin working, you realize that the project is finished and find yourself seeking work again. Over the years, I have developed a strong work ethic, which has allowed me to constantly be working on different projects and has given me opportunities to continue advancing in my career as a creative. I don’t confine myself to one box as a creative because I believe pursuing several talents of mine allows me to fulfill all of my dreams. I believe my love for music and acting sets me apart from others because the passion I have for what I do is so strong that it is simply undeniable.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s so hard to tell with the entertainment industry as it’s always evolving and changing, but I can only hope for a more inclusive and diverse industry with more opportunities for everyone regardless of who they are, what they have, or where they are from. I believe that the entertainment industry still has a few doors to break down, but we are slowly making efforts in the right direction in terms of allowing others opportunities they haven’t been granted in the past. In this world, we learn from one another based on our experiences and the stories we have to tell. I am committed to sharing and speaking out about these stories because I believe all our dreams deserve the chance to be seen and heard.
