Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Kameron Coelho.
Kristina Kameron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Photography and video has always been a passion of mine and something I’ve always enjoyed doing. I was always that kid with a camera taking photos or spending extra time in the darkroom in photo class. I grew that passion for photography into learning about video editing and production. I’m completely self-taught and for the past six years, I’ve been on social media creating video and photo content for myself and other brands and businesses.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being self-taught for sure comes with struggles and obstacles that have almost made me give up but I always kept going. I never had parents or family to encourage me or help me along my journey which has always made me work harder for myself. I grew up living in really bad neighborhoods, staying in motels with my mom who had a drug addiction. At a young age, I really had to grow up fast and find things I liked doing to distract me from it all. Anything creative or artistic is what I would turn to. Now to this day, when I’m stressed out I turn to being creative to ease my mind. I’m also very hard on myself and try to make everything I do perfect. I’ve recently got into film photography which has been such a blessing for me! It’s really made me embrace the imperfect and to slow down and appreciate the moment more. Which has helped me in my personal and professional life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a full-time social media content creator. I’ve been creating content for myself for 6 years now and have turned that into Kris Kameron Productions where I now create content in the form of video and photos for other brands and businesses. I started with a blog where I shared makeup reviews and tips but quickly realized people would rather see the makeup in action than reading about it so I taught myself how to film and edit video. I love to create not just makeup reviews and tutorials but aesthetic, beautiful product videos. I think this is what sets me apart because I don’t just use an iPhone to create content and I really take the time to make my content a whole production. I’ve worked with brands like Sephora, Drybar and Covergirl which have all been pinch me moments!
I now work with other businesses to help them create their own content. I go to them, set up all my filming equipment, film, take photos and then edit everything for them. I’ve worked and met some amazing people along the way and I never in my wildest dreams imagined I’d be where I am now. I know some people talk bad about social media but it’s really been amazing for me! Building relationships with people I’ve never even met in real life but consider to be my best friends is so cool. Because I never had encouragement from my family, I always like to encourage others, support them and tell people how proud I am of them. Even when I’m working with others and filming them, I love to hype them up and let them know they’re doing a great job. Everyone has a story or information to share that can help someone out there and I love to bring that to life for them. I think it’s so amazing I can create something for someone and have them be like, wow is that me!?
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My uncle gave me a disposable camera when I was eight and he told me there’s a limited amount of photos I could take so to make them all count. I probably had that camera for three years! I took it everywhere with me, waiting for the right opportunities to snap a picture. When I was 11, my dad got custody of me and I never had a chance to pack any of my things and get my camera. Still to this day I always wonder what happened to it and what photos could have been on it. I now always have a camera, or two, on me at all times!
