Today we’d like to introduce you to Moji Stanislavsky.
Hi Moji, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My parents and I came here from Iran in 1979 during the time of the revolution. My mother was a medical doctor in Iran and my father had his medical degree from Germany. as well. When they got to the USA, my mother continued to pursue her studying so my father decided to go into business to be able to support his family. He named his company: M&D Jewelers because they were both medical doctors and because my name is Moji and my brother is David.
My parents always stressed the importance of education and I attended UCLA and graduate school and practiced as a marriage family therapist in Beverly Hills for over 15 years.
In 2012 my father was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma and though he fought with all his might, he passed away in 2014. At the time, I thought for sure I would just close his business. But I soon realized something, his customers all loved him as much as I always had and still do.
To honor him and his legacy, I took over the company and worked in our downtown location part-time while I continued to see patients in private practice in Beverly Hills.
In 2020 when Covid began, we took a bold step and moved the company to Beverly Hills and opened M&D Jewelers, Inc on Beverly Drive.
Over the course of the last nine years, I have rebuilt the jewelry store. As a woman-owned business, I take pride in providing women beautiful pieces of jewelry to wear for a lifetime. We offer high-quality fine jewelry at very competitive pricing.
As a GIA-certified retailer, I’m able to educate customers and offer certified diamonds for engagement rings, studs, tennis necklaces and bracelets and more.
I know that my father would be proud.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I was filled with immense loss and grief when I filled in my father’s role when he passed away. As a woman, being in a very male-dominated field was also tough for me, and many times I had to prove myself and tough it out. I had to learn a lot and learn it fast to keep the company afloat.
Also moving the store to Beverly Hills in 2020 during a worldwide pandemic was challenging as most businesses can attest.
But luckily, with a lot of hard work, our customer’s loyalty and our love for jewelry and providing customers with the best products and service got us through it!
We’ve been impressed with M&D Jewelers, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
