Meet Mariah Fields

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Fields . Mariah was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Megan Correa.

Mariah , can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from San Francisco, California currently living in Sacramento. I moved around the Bay Area throughout my life and eventually ended up to Sac but never lost touch with my Bay Area roots. I got into the creative world initially by painting. I used to create artwork that would stem from the pain of losing both my mother and my father. I am a self taught artist and did not study or go to school to perfect the craft. I lost my father to a car accident when I was younger and ended up losing my mother shortly after graduating high school to a battle to stage 4 lung cancer. These traumatic events caused me to develop anxiety and depression and opened my eyes to how big the world is and how scary it can be. I went through so many waves of emotions and did not have the support I felt I needed during that time and did not cope in the most healthiest ways. I did not have access to therapy and because my mother was all I had, I did not have anyone I could fully depend on. This caused me to have to go back to work instead of take the time to grief properly and find the help I needed at the time. I went through so many ups and downs especially after having my child. My son gave me a new chance at life, with that opens the portal to motherhood and if anyone knows how that is, you know a mother’s job is never ever over.

For years I tried to figure things out on my own until finally I found art. When I would paint, the feeling I would get would bring me so much peace and serenity. I felt like there was stillness and I finally found a healthy release. I wanted to take my art further so I would participate in art shows around the Bay Area and would showcase often at TRAPXART. From my art I started my incorporating my art onto my own clothing and became my own entrepreneur. I absolutely enjoy being able to hustle on my own and watch others enjoy my brand.

After losing my parents and having a child, I felt that I wanted to live my life to my best potential. My mother was a super talented and could sing, do hair, draw, you name it. My dad is a San Francisco Bay Area rap legend by the name of Cougnut.

More than anything, I felt a purpose to make them proud by walking in my own light and carrying the legacy to my best ability. Taking a traumatic loss at such a young age changed my perspective on life altogether. There were times when things felt unbearable and there were times that were beautiful. Through it all it made me stronger and I found spirituality and started to shed many versions of myself and elevate.

With all of this, I started to do music and incorporate all of me into my image and brand. I am inspired by Mac Dre, Andre 3000, Erykah Badu, Missy Elliot, Grace Jones and the great Prince. I enjoy being unique and find it is important to pay homage to those who did great things before me.

When I approached doing music, I wanted to keep in mind to stay true to myself and did not want to steer away from being genuine. I like to call my music “hyphy spiritual” because I love to pay homage to the hyphy sound but in my own way. I also love how my music is expressive and unapologetic, that is truly a reflection of myself. I don’t care what people have to say when it comes to doing the things that make ME happy. This is why I wear what I want, do what I want, say what I want. Although I am unapologetically myself, I am still mindful of others and move with a system of light and love. There are times when things don’t always feel light and my music may touch on that. Or there are times when I just want to do random things or scream F*CK CHARLES!!! I look at it as all a release.

The name A.M.K is short for ALIEN MAC KITTY which comes from my thing for aliens, the MAC comes from MAC DRE ( Rest In Peace) and Kitty comes from my obsession of Hello Kitty. I am having so much fun with creating and being an overall artist and I hope to inspire so many other beings alike and unlike myself on this planet. My son also makes beats and has his own brand called STRESS LEVEL ZERO. I am excited to see where things go and am happy connecting with new people on this journey that are giving me opportunities to shine!

Please talk to us about your music.
When I approached doing music, I wanted to keep in mind to stay true to myself and did not want to steer away from being genuine. I also love how my music is expressive and unapologetic, that is truly a reflection of myself. I don’t care what people have to say when it comes to doing the things that make ME happy. There are times when things don’t always feel light and my music may touch on that. My music also speaks on dealing with depression and anxiety at times, like my songs ISH YOUS and BIH or there are times when I just want to do random things or scream F*CK CHARLES!!! I look at it as all a release! I love creating my music videos from my crazy mind. I work with other likeminded individuals to get my videos done such as a talented videographer from Sacramento name DAG aka @Directedbydag as well as @Goodgreedartstudio. My looks are normally styled by me with garments pulled from PKOKSF and make up glamoured by my girl @SUPERHELLA.OMG. My super crazy colored hair is slayed by Cosmo Bonnie, and props created to my liking by Nellz Custom Creations. Or even a quick wax by my girl Jazz @_babygotwax. My girl Tehryn @tehryn_up_yonails is always down to create a crazy look for nails Having a team of people who believe in you and your uniqueness is super important in this journey. Highlighting them is MAJOR, I don’t think people understand the IMPORTANCE of what goes on behind the scenes of a creative process. Even when getting on stage, there is a process behind all of that. It takes time and energy, I invest in my looks, accessories, and shoes because I don’t want to look like anyone else or be like anyone else. I am a walking canvas and I have a great time showing that part of me on stage. I also enjoy being on stage with my hypewoman Shali who has been rocking with me since we were rapping on the bus in kindergarten. I also have had the opportunity to perform with amazing artists that from the same soil as me such as Afterthought(Aft.fng) and Familynotagroup, DELACITY415 & Saucefamcollective who let me be apart of their FRISCO DAZE compilation project tape that highlights other artists from San Francisco. I’ve also had the opportunity to open for FRAK as well as Stunnaman02. Last year I had the opportunity to open for Soulja Boy shout out to DjWORKS for that! A major part in this industry is having female unity and I would love to highlight LILMC , DAYLITE, Breathlessmusic and The Queens of the Underground team. It’s important to have strong femme unity and I am so for it. It’s also good to highlight my mentors in this process who are other artists, rappers, producers, such as my uncle and bay legend T.C , the legendary EQUIPTO, Mike Mosley, My fairly Godmama Letty Love @Irkoriginals (Artist), my bestfriend @Freetown_zmg (Rapper) @ACTHEPRODUCER(producer) MszLisalisa(CEO/event coordinator/entrepreneur) as well as my cousin @official_timmytim(rapper) My sister Asjah, Mishal, Chastity, my girl Lily and my best friend E. These people have contributed and have given me a lot of advice during my creative career and I cannot thank them enough. There would are times when I need them the MOST, and those words of encouragement is something that cannot be matched. On this journey, it is important to have people toy can confide in. All of the people I named play a different role in my life, they all are an ingredient for a dish that makes me feel FULL when they do their part. They are all super talented as well. The biggest part of this to me is having people who believe in you when others may not understand. I cannot thank people like my producers 3D Smash as well as Nicatyne who gave me a shot on their beats when I was first getting started! My first studio session where music was curated for me was with a producer by the name of Andrew Beckner as well as AC. I was able to see how music was made from scratch and having a sound to fit ME. That takes time and energy and it goes a super long way with me that they have given me a chance. Another huge important factor are my fans!!! I like to call my folks who have been rocking with me from jump my TRIBE! Shout out to KUSH & EJAY my girl BRUJA ,LOVELADY , SCARLETTA, my sis Sanee !! It doesn’t just end with them, I have new folks that are vibing out and I love them so much. Shout out to ALL MY FUCKOS! I felt it was needed to acknowledge these beautiful beings in my life because at times, we tend to have a moment where WE are highlighted and may forget to mention the folks who may or may not know how much they’ve impacted us. Bringing that creative unity is back is something important as well as making a creative connection. I have a lot of love for platforms like @YOLETSLAB @HYPHYCULTURE @MENDESENTERTAINMENT & @QUEENSOFTHEUNDERGROUND. They all are rocking it by creative positive uplifting platforms that are so needed. I also wanted to do something that my folks DjSay said to me earlier which is “Change the Narrative” ! You can find my music on all platforms by searching A.M.K. Search ALIENMACKITTY on YOUTUBE/ Instagram/TIKTOK. My current project out is called OUT HER SPACE – A.M.K please check it out.

Megan Correa has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Megan and your experience with them.
Man o Man ….

When I first met Lil MC I remember looking at how petite she is! Please do not let her size fool you. She is a FORCE. When she gets on stage her she owns it. I love how she carries herself and LOVE HOW SHE PUSHES UNITY FOR WOMEN!!!!!!!!!! She has inspired me to be strong and know that although this is a male dominated industry, STAND YOUR GROUND and I do not have do things I don’t feel comfortable doing to fit in. She’s shown that there are communities that will support me for WHO I AM.

I had such a fun time showcasing at the last Queens of the Underground party. The energy was so free and it felt good to see other women holding it down everywhere you look, from Dj Ray Reck, to my girl Bombsnax and even Daylite doing her thing. The energy was so powerful and beautiful most importantly inviting. I felt so comfortable and happy to be in a space where people genuinely want to see you win.

I cannot thank her enough, she made sure were all taken care of and happy!

THANK YOU SO MUCH LILMC I WISH YOU NOTHING BUT THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!

I also got to watch her perform and its always a treat !! Energy is unreal!
