Rising Stars: Meet Dorian Gayle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorian Gayle.

Hi Dorian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was 16, I told my father that I wanted to quit my Pop Warner football team and be a stand-up comedian. My father was immediately supportive of me when I told him this news. I was excited to find a new purpose in my life, giving the gift of laughter. While I was excited about making people laugh, there was one huge obstacle I was afraid of, public speaking. My time in LA was fantastic.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Everything has not been smooth. I started very young in doing stand-up comedy and I wasn’t always met with praise and guidance. I would seek out information by asking the comedians who were older than me. A lot of comedians gave me lackluster, which I later found out to be because of their own insecurities. Experiencing veteran comedians shun me, turn me away, and put off their toxic energy on me; it hurt me at first but made me stronger.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a stand-up comedian, content creator and actor. My vocal abilities set me apart from most comedians, with over 100 voice impressions. In May of 2022, I was able to film a Burger King Advertisement for Ms. Pat shown produced by BET. Another one of my most proud moments was being able to attend the 2022 BET Awards Red Carpet. I was able to do my Chris Rock impression next to Comedian Ms. Pat. Which was later shown on the 2022 BET Awards Red Carpet Special on television. This was the second time I had appeared on international television. The topics I cover on my comedy involve social commentary, self-deprecating and animated characters involving some of my favorite impressions to do.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My faith in God. If it wasn’t for my belief in God, I wouldn’t be successful.
