Today we’d like to introduce you to Petecia Le Fawnhawk-Maggiori.
Petecia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a daughter of the Southwest. The desert was my home and where I came of age. It is where I feel rooted in creation and feel the deepest sense of self. I moved to LA when I was 18 to go after dreams of being a designer and to create a better life for myself. I went to FIDM but after a year left due to financial stress as I came from poverty. I interned and got a job as an assistant designer. A fluke led me to becoming head designer within a few days and I was then thrown into the fire. And I accepted the challenge with passion and determination. I began to learn Photoshop from my assistant and then became a graphic designer and from there a creative director. Meanwhile also discovering myself as an artist; visually and musically. Playing shows with my band and holding exhibits with my art. In 2012, I married my soulmate and the next year we packed up and moved back to Kingman, AZ where my mom still lived to minimize expenses and maximize art. It was the first time I had all the time to myself to devote to my artistic voice. I had returned to the desert and it creative energy poured out of every bit of me. The vision became clear and it’s been a confining cultivation and refinement of that vision through multiple mediums still encompassing all the skills I learned along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I moved to LA not knowing a soul and with $40 to my name. I made tons of mistakes and learned from most of them. I’ve had So much hardship and many struggles but I’ve always accepted as challenges needing creative solutions. I’ve also cultivated, attracted and created so much beauty and community… an entire universe of my liking all since that fateful day I spread my wings and flew the coop.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multi-disciplinary artist. I’ve been described as a soulful surreal minimalist. I have a singular vision that I apply to various mediums to create an immersive and dynamic experience. During the pandemic, I created a fashion extension of the art and am currently working on an album as a sonic accompaniment. Sculpture is also a live of mine and I am working on erecting my “Third Eye Observatory” Monolith in Portal, AZ. Everything I do is an outward expression of my inner journey and the desire to make meaning and connection .
