Conversations with Milroy Goes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milroy Goes.

Hi Milroy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m an artist, a painter, pencil sketch artist. I have been doing as a hobby since my school days. I have been intrigued by filmmaking since I saw a filming in my hometown, and that sparked my curiosity to learn more from Bonus DVD “Behind The Scenes”. I watched World Cinema more than just Indian Films. In GOA, I grew up in a small town called “Cuncolim”, where we were more exposed to European Films and Music more, as Goa was a former “Portuguese Territory” and very much influenced with Indian and Portuguese Culture.

I ventured into filmmaker with a short film, just with my brother Rohan Austin Goes and his Afgani friends from the student exchange program, with a great support from a neighbor then and now the best buddy Khabir Moraes. We did a short film to participate on SonyPIX Short film contest; Eventually, it became famous within the college where my brother attended. And then got recognition at International Film Festival of India in GOA and which made some news within the State of GOA. With great support from family and friends that gave a huge boost to my creativity and career.

I’d like to thank the key people in my life, Ashley Moraes, Brittany Mcviker, Connor Bahng, Thub Chaikaewsakulchai, Sahil Laul, Riccardo Vincenzi and my producers Manpreet Singh, Sagar Sadanand Naik, Yeshwantrao Tulshidas Naik, Amanda Kemmy Mendes, Hardeep Singh Grewal, Ravindra Nath, Simon Milton Luis, Francisquinho Pio Goes, Vanessa Fernandes and Kavi Raz.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I put God first, I am a strong believer in Christ, and the most obstacles and challenges that I have faced over the time, I have no complaints about it. Long story short; I always dreamt of Hollywood; I would set a goal for every 5 years; and there were huge obstacles each phase which purely translated as “quit” or “overcome” and you know what I have chosen over the time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
To start with, some says, I am a multi-talented person. I believe that! Professionally, I am a Film Director, script writer, Film Editor and I also love creating short caricature sketches and animate them. Since I have an art background, I use my art skills to create my vision. I have designed Logo’s for companies, I’m a graphic designer. I have also created Film Poster Designs, Title Animations for Production companies, Canvas Pantings and pencil sketch Portraits as commissioned work. Having said that, I have brief web development knowledge, back in 2005 in my school days, I have created websites. And I do web development for some clients. I’m always open for creative creation.

I believe “Your Talent is your Goldmine”.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I trust anyone easily, and I have always been heartbroken mostly in my Professional life. And I continued doing what I normally believed in doing. “Do to others what you want them to do to you.” If I say that was the lesson to learn from, then I may restrict trust. My point here, we often consider a bad experience a lesson, not necessary it has to be something to change ourselves from. I am growing day by day, and every day is a new lesson. Some are to keep, and some are to forget. The ones that I keep help me progress, and the ones that I choose to forget have helped me to remain what I am.
