Life & Work with Logan Basden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Basden.

Hi Logan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma and spent most of my time playing in many different bands and experimenting with different sounds. I started taking music a lot more seriously towards the end of high school when I started writing for my artist project Hollo. I was really influenced by artists that used simplicity to their advantages like Frank Ocean, Bon Iver, James Blake, Daniel Caesar and many more. I released my first song, “Tears Dry” in 2020. During that time, having writing going back and forth from Oklahoma to LA. The first time I came to LA, I fell in love with the city and knew I wanted to eventually end up there. In 2021 I played my first show as hollo opening up for Greyson Chance and realized how much fun it is to play these songs live.

In 2022, I ended up moving to LA to pursue music. As soon as I got there, I started playing as many shows as possible opening for artists at venues such as The Hotel Cafe, The Virgil, Blackrose, Hotel Ziggy, and many more. I released two singles, “Marie” and “Nevada” at the end of 2022 and went back to Oklahoma to play a hometown show to close the year out. I’ve been living in LA for a year now and I’m really looking forward to what’s next for me. I have a lot of music I’ve been sitting on for a long time that I’m still super excited to release in 2023.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There was a huge difference between LA and Oklahoma, and when I first moved out here that was definitely a struggle for me. I grew up in a town where everyone knows each other then moving to a city that felt like the complete opposite. I was still really excited but it took a while to get used to.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started playing piano when I was 5 so once I got older it made it easier to learn how to do other things. I also play guitar, bass and drums and have been singing for as long as I can remember. I was performing before I started writing and didn’t start to take writing more seriously till I was older but I think my stage presence is what sets me apart from others because I’ve been doing it for so long.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I really enjoy working with other artists and creatives in the industry whether that’s working with writers and producers or working with videographers on visuals. I feel most inspired by other artists that are really passionate about what they do, and when I’m around them I make my best work.
