Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Cameron. They and their team shared their story with us below:
A longtime dream of Amelia Cameron, Ms. Wine Whisperer was conceived after many years of enjoying, tasting and selling wine. Her undergraduate studies at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo allowed many weekends spent discovering the surrounding wine regions. This hobby soon blossomed into a passion, resulting in Amelia studying abroad in France where she was exposed to wines of the Old World. Although her degree was in Art & Design, Photography, followed by an early career as an Architectural Photographer, the intrigue of the wine industry never waned.
Amelia decided to follow her passion and went through the WSET program, completing the 3rd level with Merit and later the Certified Specialist of Wine exam. Over the past 15 years, Amelia has deepened her passion with industry expertise by working with various wineries, distributors and small importers. Years of receiving calls, emails and text messages for wine recommendations led Amelia to dreaming of starting a wine shop and club whose mission is just this. Ms. Wine Whisperer is your go-to for all your wine needs and new wine introductions.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started the process 2020, so it proved to be a struggle to get my license, but once that went through I was busy as ever. I was able to work from home and deliver wine to people while they remained secluded through the roller coaster years of the Pandemic.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run a small online wine retail shop and wine club in Long Beach. I specialize in small producers and focus on sustainable, organic, biodynamic wines and try to expose wine drinkers to new varietals and AVA’s. I hand-select wines monthly and can also provide consulting and special ordering.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see wine drinkers becoming more open to new varietals and obscure AVA’s. I also see a trend in lower alcohol wines that are produced without the chemicals. This is something I strongly support and encourage. Natural wines don’t have to be “natty”, yet the consciousness is winemaking and growing is trend in the right direction. Consumers reaching for smaller producers outside of the big box stores is also a trend and something I fully support.
