Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Faith Miller.
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I come from a family of six, and I am one of four children. I am also a triplet! I am originally from Baltimore, MD. I started performing as a dancer when I was four years old. And when I was six years old, my siblings and I had our first professional audition for the film Little Fockers with Ben Stiller. I remember sending in our audition tape and getting called back to meet the producers in New York. It was the coolest experience! At the age of 8, I began vocal training with a private instructor at the Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute Conservatory, inspired by my love for Taylor Swift. I was seriously her biggest fan! Then, when I was about nine years old, my siblings and I started getting involved in theatre. In 2012, my family filmed a Major League Baseball commercial for the Baltimore Orioles! Shortly after, I filmed a commercial for Carefirst Bluecross Blueshield health insurance.
I began studying and training seriously at the age of 11 after being accepted into TWIGs, a program with the Baltimore School for the Arts. During my first years of training, I studied with veteran Broadway and professional artists, culminating in multiple performances at the Hippodrome Theatre in downtown Baltimore. Throughout middle and high school, I was very involved in theatre. It was during my transition from middle school into high school that I decided I wanted to pursue acting, specifically television and film work, more seriously. I was in my first short film at 15 years old, and since then, I have been blessed to be in 15 on-stage theatrical productions, four films, and an independent television pilot.
Currently, I am a full-time college student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation with a double minor in Marketing and Theatre. As an Entrepreneurship and Innovation major with a concentration in Social Entrepreneurship, I am striving to make a positive impact on the world. I chose this field of study because I believe lasting change occurs when we find innovative and creative solutions to complex problems. Some specific areas of passion for me include advocating for girls’ education in developing countries and applying entrepreneurship, filmmaking, and the performing arts to empower youth to tell their stories and make a difference in their communities. Coming from a family where my parents made many sacrifices for me to have the best education possible, I hope to apply what I’ve learned to inspire others. For the past six months, I have been teaching entrepreneurship curriculum to girls in Kenya through an Economic Empowerment Incubator Program. I’ll actually be traveling to Kenya in March 2023 to visit the organization I’ve been working with (Global Give Back Circle) and I couldn’t be more excited! I also love exploring the outdoors (especially fishing, hiking, and rock climbing) and living out my faith as a Catholic!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would dare to say that any artist would agree that choosing a creative career path is not for the faint of heart. Being an actor, singer, dancer or any kind of performer requires unrelenting resilience. One of the most difficult skills to learn is facing rejection with grace. It takes practice to measure your abilities not by how many jobs you book but by how hard you work to hone your craft. I have grown to become comfortable with the word “no” and I have reframed the way I view failure. I think, too, that being both an actor and entrepreneur has given me a unique perspective on facing challenges in my career and in my life. I like to think that, as an actor, I am the CEO of my own business! As a CEO, to build a sustainable business, you need to focus on what you can control versus what you can’t, and you need to approach every challenge with a growth mindset. More often than not, both entrepreneurs and actors get rejected way more than they are accepted, whether that be for a role or for a business pitch competition. But at the end of the day, I am grounded by my “why.” No matter what challenges I face, I remember why I started performing in the first place. I started because it fills me with immense joy and gives my life meaning. I view my passions and talents as a gift to me from God, which no one else can take away.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The three descriptors that best describe my work and personal brand are actor, activist, and adventurer. As an actor, I am a storyteller who explores the depths of the human condition through the lenses of different characters. In turn, I open my own self to experience life more freely, truthfully, and vulnerably. As an activist, I desire to make the world a better place by approaching social impact with creativity and intentionality while always acknowledging the innate dignity of others. As an adventurer, I treasure the beautiful earth we’ve been given as I strive to explore the earth and help protect the earth. These three descriptors serve as a foundation for most of the work that I do and make me proud to be who I am!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
