Hi Jaymee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Guam. I was an athlete for most of my life, playing various sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross country, rugby, Olympic weightlifting). At a young age, I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor. When I was around the age of 10, my uncle, who was one of my role models growing up, was going to chiropractic school and I asked him what he was going to school for. Because of how he described school, him being my role model, and my passion for helping people (I’ve always loved helping people, even at a young age), I knew then and there that I wanted to become a chiropractor. I wouldn’t have been able to be where I am without my mom. My mom raised me on her own and didn’t get any child support from my dad. Aside from all of the sports I played, my mom also paid for other activities: ballet, jazz, tap, hula/Tahitian, piano, and tennis. I went to private, Catholic school for 13 years with only her salary.  Even though I’m passionate about chiropractic, my actual passion is helping people. And it’s the best feeling in the world knowing that I’ve helped someone get out of pain and have them get back to their sport or doing what they love.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I doubted myself throughout the years. I actually got scammed by a bank last summer and they took almost all of my money, except for around 60 cents. So I literally have started from scratch last year. Last year, I also quit my corporate chiropractic job at The Joint Chiropractic. I was there for 5 and a half years. I was grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work on so many people but I worked on so many people and sometimes felt like I was a machine. I averaged 50-60 patients a day, with 86 patients being the most I ever saw in one day. I was literally working every single day for years; 4 days at The Joint and the other 3 days in my private practice. I worked out of a few gyms and also treated people at home. I experienced a lot of burn out but I didn’t want to give up my private practice days because that was ultimately what I wanted to do full-time. It hasn’t always been easy, but I knew that one day all of my hard work was going to pay off.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about IMPACT Sports Chiropractic & Wellness?
I am a Chiropractor based out of Diamond Bar, CA that specializes in Sports Chiropractic. What sets me apart from other Chiropractors: I make customized mobility exercises for all of my patients, I always follow up with them 1-2 days after their last visit to see how they are feeling after the treatment, and I am also certified in Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage massage because I see so many benefits to it besides the aesthetic part. I also adjust more than just the spine. If someone has a neck or upper back issue, I am also going to check their shoulder. I look at the issue as a whole; not only what is painful/bothering the person, but also habits (sleep, diet, stress levels, if they have a sedentary or active lifestyle, etc) and work together get to the desired goal. The services I offer: Chiropractic adjustments (spinal and extremity), soft tissue work (scraping, cupping, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, active release therapy), Normatec compression therapy, athletic taping, and Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For those just starting out: everything doesn’t have to be perfect for you to take the leap. Just go for it. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. In the beginning for social media, I thought I didn’t need guidance; I thought that I can just learn from the different reels I saw on Instagram of how to “cheat the algorithm” but I was lost. I decided to invest in a social media coach and it was on of the best investments! So definitely invest in yourself. I wish I invested in myself sooner because I would’ve left my corporate chiropractic job years ago and would’ve avoided all of the burnout and stress I experienced. Working every single day caused me to miss so many birthdays and special occasions. Yes, work hard to reach your goals, but it’s also important to make time for yourself. Burnout is not fun and you can’t give 100% if you yourself aren’t at 100%. “You can’t pour from an empty cup”. And lastly, have fun! Enjoy the process.
