Hidden Gems: Meet Carrie V Scott of Carrie V Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie V Scott.

Hi Carrie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Clarester Varie Scott, known as Carrie, I dreamed of becoming a nurse at a young age, but God had a different plan for my life. Originally born and raised on my family farm in Bucks Bayou, Texas, my family later relocated to Houston, Texas, where I grew up. Having attended Prairie View A&M University as a pre-nursing student, I went on to attend Texas Tech’s School of Nursing. Later graduated with my bachelor’s in psychology from Texas Tech University. Carrie V the professional makeup artist evolved in 2005 from individuals who saw a talent and gift in me I did not know I possessed.

In college, I did hair and makeup to make extra money on the side. After graduation, a friend called to ask me to do her hair and makeup for her wedding. By this time, my friend had her doctorate and she was marrying a New York Jets NFL player. I told her, “you know you can afford a real makeup artist and hair stylist”. She replied, “yes but I want you” and this was the start of my journey as a professional makeup artist. I didn’t know then how big of a deal it was, but my first wedding ever was an NFL wedding as a makeup artist. Shortly after this a good friend called and asked if I would do her sister’s makeup for a modeling gig. This was my first photoshoot ever. Once I saw the print, I was florid, I could not believe that was my work. At this time, I was working at Higher Dimension Church as an assistant to the Chief Development officer when my Pastor started his broadcast ministry. I became my Pastor and First ladies’ makeup artist and the rest is history. This opportunity opened up so many doors for me and I owe it to them, my family, and friends who believed in me and encouraged me. I transitioned for Just a Touch Makeup to Carrie V to Carrie V Cosmetics over the past 18 years!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth, but it was not rough either. When I started this journey, I knew nothing about the makeup industry. I did not go to school to be a makeup artist and I didn’t know anyone in the industry. I am self-taught in the application to the business side. However, I did have a group of individuals who believed in me and assisted me in learning all that I needed to know. The journey was not smooth, but it was exactly what I needed. I simultaneously was establishing my career with my degree and as a makeup artist. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and prayer. This Journey taught me that God knows the plan He has for me, plans for me to prosper plans to give me hope and a future.

Since becoming a professional makeup artist, I have had the opportunity to travel the world and cater to the beauty needs of a number of celebrities, recording artists, business leaders, athletes, actors, actresses, and everyday individuals. After 18 years in the business, I still have the same excitement and drive as I did when I first started.

In 2020 I fulfilled a long-time dream and launched Carrie V Cosmetics, a vegan cosmetic line made with organic and natural ingredients for all cultures. Carrie V Cosmetics provides quality cosmetics and will now become your new addiction. Carrie V Cosmetics produces products that will enhance the everyday woman’s makeup looks and needs.
