Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Parsons.
Randy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had always played guitar. In my teens, it was definitely part of my identity. But after college, I gave it up.
I was 28, taking a shower, when I was overcome with a vision, a vision of myself building guitars for some of the biggest names in music, including my childhood hero Jimmy Page. It was like a love story, the thing I loved, I let go, and then it came back. But I needed to learn how to “build” guitars and, learn how to conduct my life in way that would let me turn this vision into reality, I began my journey. During this time, I learned the importance of taking risks, having blind faith and the magic of hard work. 20 years later, and after 10 years of building Jack White’s stage guitars, I pulled up the Beverly Hills Wilshire hotel to meet Jimmy Page. I was delivering him a guitar.
In 2014, I moved my business from Seattle to Ventura, another risky leap of faith. The new shop space, a former Hells Angels club house, sits on top of the Majestic Music Theater. I spend my time locked in, building some of the craziest guitars on the planet. Life is good.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. It has not been smooth, 3 failures for every success. Something most people don’t understand.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Parsons Guitars – what should we know?
We build guitars that are more art then manufactured products. We’ve always taken the road less traveled.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We build with passion, we’re trying to create art, something different. Something that has value to our clients now and for many years to come.
