Today we’d like to introduce you to Leisan Valieva.

Hi Leisan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Leisan is a DJ artist from Russia, currently residing in Los Angeles, California.

She started as a DJ throwing underground raves for Post Soviet community in Los Angeles. She also often played at various independent desert festivals in California. Currently, you can see Leisan playing disco house in popular local bars and music venues: Sound Night club, Pinky’s, Roosterfish, Clinic Wednesday, Bathtub Gin, Off Sunset, La Messa e.t.c. As a natural dancer and raver herself she enjoys bringing joyful sounds that uplift your spirit and make you want to dance all night.

Despite her bright personality, as a truly Eastern European soul, her favorite genres are house, disco, and tech house. She enjoys exploring unique sounds and implementing that energy into her sensual and melodic house sets.

On her YouTube channel, Leisan regularly posts her live sets from LA most picturesque and authentic places like skate parks, deserts and other open venues. That’s how she is sharing her music with the whole world!

She released her tracks under the German label ZEHN records and NoFace Records.

I was five y.o when I sang for the first time on stage. I still remember that feeling of excitement before the performance. At that moment, I didn’t realize that music would be a massive part of my life. Four years ago, I moved from my country to a completely different culture. Here people speak a foreign language, think differently, and dress differently. At some point, I felt that I would never be able to understand the people around me. And I decided to start talking to them in the language that we all know – the language of music. Over the past four years, music has become my profession, my hobby, and my best friend.

Last year one of my good friends Arthur started to do one of the best vinyl parties in Los Angeles – Sunday Sessions. Last spring he invited me to be a Social media manager of this project. Which is amazing opportunity to express myself not like a DJ but a person who working behind the music scene. Also, I like to do a collaboration with a cool brands whose branding and target market seem to be very in line with each other. It gives me more inspiration, space for creativity! I created content for brands as Nike, Crocs, Boxed Water, Edifier Global, Hercules DJ, On Vacation Club, Spirit Hoods, Ridel Bikes, and Kat Burki.

As an artist, I have good and hard moments in my life, but Seeing hundreds of people dancing on the dance floor, listening to your story, and feeling you is real magic. Music, for me, is inspiration, energy, and what makes me feel alive.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m still on that path. On the way to learning music, its genres, what I like. Because every day we change, our tastes and opinions change. That’s why for me it works every day. To stay in tune with myself and with listeners. Today I can make money with my music. And the main thing is to find a balance between work and DJing. Don’t forget what you are doing it for – to have fun!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Music has always been a part of my life. But never a profession. By education, I am a television director and producer. I went to university for 5 years and worked for the main TV channels in my country. And when I moved to America, it was kind of difficult for me to continue because of my knowledge of English. In America, I started to love music festivals and electronic music. From that moment I started to make music again as a hobby. I asked my friends to show me how to work the DJ controller, watched video lessons. I bought the cheapest Dj controller on Amazon and practiced at home. Started playing at my friends’ parties, asked bars and restaurants to play there, sometimes for free. During covid, when everyone was sitting at home – I started to run my YouTube channel and record videos. It’s interesting that in bars you have one audience, in Instagram another, and on YouTube the whole world.
