Today we’d like to introduce you to Alizee Falque.
Hi Alizee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This journey started with a desire to express intense emotions, break barriers, push limits, and expand my imagination. As I became invested in the arts through music, theater, film, and dance, I realized that the self-imposed—although societal—limits were continuously in conflict with the need to express myself as I am.
I found freedom in acting. It is important to me that what I create tells a story that offers a window into a person’s truth and a place where people can feel what they aren’t allowed to feel in their lives. An audience can experience and connect with people they would have never met in person and, hopefully, gain new perspectives and broaden the realm of possibilities. As a teenager, I relied on media and art to grow, so I wanted to pay it forward and share this passion in my craft. After growing up in Reunion Island where I started clarinet at the conservatory of music, I moved to Minnesota where I played in my first musical. I then spent four years in acting school at Cours Florent in Paris followed by two years at AMDA in New York and Los Angeles during Covid. There have been many exciting projects since, including Up and Down, a short film about bipolar disorder that will be coming out this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been some tough moments. This career is a wild ride in itself. Acting, while rewarding, requires a balance between personal life, day jobs, acting jobs, and auditions. It is a 100% commitment that requires perseverance and a love for the craft. I have moments when I wonder if it’s worth it. But when I step onto a set or a stage, I know I have to be a part of creating and telling stories. When I was about 16, people would ask me what I wanted to do when I grew up. My dad asked me, “who do you want to be?” It stayed with me. I was stuck with this question because I could answer the ‘what’ part—as I wanted to do everything, but not the ‘who.’ It is something I am still working on. Acting seems to allow me to explore many directions and share and inspire others to the infinite possibilities. Maybe I will find my way in there. Struggling to find oneself is a normal and necessary part of life. I am leading with my heart and letting the setbacks and struggles guide me to unforeseen paths.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a bilingual queer actor, I aspire to bring a more diverse representation to the existing body of media. There are so many unique stories and a place for every uniqueness in the spotlight. We can find inspiration in the most unexpected places and if we want to represent the diversity of this planet, it starts by bringing three-dimensional complex people to the stage/screen. That is why I am proud to work on queer characters and mental health as part of the stories we create. Up and Down is our new short film in which a girl from France is on the verge of seeing her life explode. She takes a path, as a person living with bipolar disorder, that pushes her to her limits. There are new projects that we hope are going to move forward this year, stay tuned!
How do you think about happiness?
Happiness is a complex word. I do not think I have a true answer for you. I seem to be the happiest when I can fully be myself outside of social obligations. Something that brings me the most peace is going to the movies alone with my coffee and watching two or three movies in a row. In France, we have an unlimited subscription that allows you to go see as many films as you want for a minimum price. That keeps me sane when everything around me goes haywire. Obviously, friends and family are a big part of my happiness, intensity, and spontaneity as well. I love rock climbing, dancing, throwing knives, and fighting with lightsabers. Learning is one of my most important sources of happiness. I never stop wondering about all kinds of things. Feeding my mind and curiosity are what anchors me.
