Check Out Alex Michael Torres’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Michael Torres.

Hi Alex Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I first moved out here to LA, I was originally a hip-hop dancer. I started submitting to agencies and projects, but the people contacting me asked me if I had acting/modeling experience. I was open to trying it out, and the next month I shot my first campaign for Powerade and decided to continue pursuing it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot of rejection at the beginning. At first when you say you want to pursue the art people give you a weird look and ask what your backup plan is when you fail. I remember the first year it was hard to continue to stay motivated after so many no’s and close calls.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Most of my work has been in Commercials /Print. You can see me in stores like ULTA, Best Buy, Sephora, etc. My most notable acting work is I had a small role in the film The RideShare Killer, or in one of the most recent American Express commercials I have a scene with Will Arnett. What sets me apart is I represent the Latino Community. I feel like there is never enough representation for our community, so I love to book a job to represent for our culture.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
When I first started this I was going to school in Orange County and often had to miss school for shoots, castings, etc. it got to the point where it was affecting both and I had to decide what I wanted to do. I bet on myself and took a break from school to go all in. I am so happy I made the decision I did. A quote that sticks with me from my acting teacher about risk is from Killian Mchugh which is “leap and the net will appear”. Which basically means take the risk, and the rest will work itself out and you have to have faith in that.
