Today we’d like to introduce you to Matheus Fagundes.

Hi Matheus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Brazilian actor who moved to Los Angeles almost TWO years ago to pursue a career that started in Brazil when I was still a child. I jumped into acting because my mother didn’t give me another option in the beginning and with the years as much I worked I realized how hard would be for me not to deal with acting anymore if I decided not to pursue what I was used to, I literally fell in love for acting. I don’t regret the decisions I’ve made about following that dream. I know how hard it is, I know how unstable the artist’s life is until you get the opportunity to prove your value, but the feeling I feel when I’m working it pays all the complications off. My Brazilian mentor who is named Marcio Mehiel always told me that persistence will take you farther than talent and abilities, consistency is the key for everything. I am proud of what I’ve already did as actor because to a young guy from west zone of São Paulo who grew up at Jaraguá, to be the lead role of a movie that has been presented in the cinema festival of Berlim, Havana, Lima, Chicago and other festival around the world, is an amazing conquer. When I received twice the best actor award for the movie that is named “Absence” (Ausência, by Chico Teixeira), I could see I had chosen the right path and it was just a matter of time until I achieve all the goals I have as artist into that industry.

Since I decided to start all over again moving to US life has been giving me signs saying don’t stop, no matter how impossible it looks like, no matter how crazy it is, keep husling. I’m sure the opportunity will come to me when it has to happen, this time has been good for me to improve myself, get more knowledge and figure out new layers of the human being I’ve been becoming. LA has been repaying me with what I’ve been giving to that city since I moved, hard work. Little by little things are happening and it makes all the challenges more pleasure. This place reminds us every day that there is a price to be paid and right after this it sends us the question: are you willing? I’m and that is the reason I came for.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road and I knew I would have to give twice more of me to stay here because to deal with a new culture, to create all the connections again and the hardest part, to adapt me to express myself as good as I was used to do it in Portuguese, this idea never sounded easy for me but since from always it sounded possible so I felt I could do it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started working as an actor when I was still a child, since there I’ve done some tv shows, soap operas, plays and movies. All the expertise I conquered as actor a huge part came from my mentor Marcio Mehiel. I studied in his atelier for a long time and as more I dedicated myself into the classes and techniques more opportunities came to me. The genre I played the most in Brazil was drama so I would say I am specialized with that. I’m proud about the decisions I’ve been taking during my whole life, I’m always in movement when I feel I’m stuck right away I look for something to take me away from my comfort zone. What sets me apart from others for sure is my life’s experience and what I’ve been coming through since I was born. I’m really excited for this new year and I will make as much as I can to see all the dreams I have coming true. Thanks for giving me voice!

What matters most to you? Why?
Currently what matters most for me is the feeling of being good with myself. As I’m a part of my family, base, friends and the environment where I was used to be, I’ve been super carefully with myself. I believe we can only do the goodness to the others when we are good with ourselves. Our acts are just a reflection of how we are feeling, I’ve been working the self-knowledge and it makes all the difference.
