Today we’d like to introduce you to Java Doodles.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m an animator in Los Angeles with over 10 years of industry experience. I started a TikTok during the pandemic because I was looking for something outside of my day job to give me a personal sense of creative fulfillment. I started a cartoon series of beverage/drink characters and people seemed to react positively to them. My TikTok grew rapidly and I now have about 350k followers. Additionally, I started a YouTube which rapidly hit 1 million subscribers in about three months.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been smooth in that I receive positive feedback when I post my animations. I get the nicest and most supportive comments! However, what people don’t see is the countless hours of work I pour into each animation. I definitely struggle with burnout and staying inspired. When a video goes viral, it’s easy to feel motivated and that desire to keep going. However, when the numbers stop going up, it’s easy to feel like you’re doing something wrong. But I have just been reminding myself it’s a marathon, not a sprint. As long as I am enjoying the creative process, I consider that a huge win.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a 2D animator who is known for animating silly drink characters. Additionally, I collaborate with comedians and voice actors for sound. Most notably, I collaborate often with Kevin James Thornton (@kevinjamesthornton on TikTok) for his hilarious autotune stories. He has been one of my biggest inspirations during the last few years. His videos never fail to make me laugh, and I feel honored to make animations with his voice in it!
I am proud of my animations because they are completely unique and original. I also enjoy what I do because I get to be as creative and weird as humanly possible – and people seem to LIKE IT! It’s encouraging that my sense of humor resonates with such a large audience.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like LA because there are so many creative people here! I strongly dislike that LA is mostly a car city and that public transportation is not super accessible.
