Check Out Kate Chen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Chen.

Hi Kate, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started thinking about trying out acting when I was just about to graduate from college. At the time, I was a student-athlete majored in International Relations while taking a few film and art courses for my general credits. I was always interested in art and loved watching movies as a kid.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is certainly not an easy career to pursue. You deal with a lot of rejections, a lot of trials and lessons learned along the way. Not only do they want you to be able to act, sometimes they are looking for certain looks and body types. But I just kept going because I love acting. I still think I am lucky in many ways.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
This year, I had my first co-star role in a documentary-drama feature film Why The Nativity? playing as Zhi. It had a world premiere in LA Live in thanksgiving and currently has 16 million views and counting. I also voiced in the animated voice-over project AAPI Force Get Out and Vote, which encourages the AAPI community to vote and voice their opinions.

I’m a bit oblivious, so I need to rely to professional’s honest feedbacks. My coach has noted the range of characters I have played in theatre, and casting directors have noted my uniqueness and access to range of emotions. I guess what sets me apart is that I’ve had interesting life adventures that can contribute to my acting and writing. And I still feel like I am learning and growing. I grew up in Taiwan than in the states, been to 15 countries and would love to travel again when there are work opportunities. I encountered many different people from all walks of life and was always interested in learning about their lives. I am excited of what life and the industry will unfold in my journey.

Any big plans?
I will continue with my acting career while working on scripts at the same time.
