Rising Stars: Meet Victoria Levert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Levert.

Hi Victoria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Birmingham, Alabama. However, I was awarded the chance to grow up in various parts of the United States as a result of my father being in the military. That is where my knack for storytelling began. As a child, I was always fascinated by the stories of the people living around me. I always enjoyed comparing and contrasting people in different parts of the world. There was rarely a time you would catch me without a pen and paper in hand, so I guess it comes as no shock that I started a career in journalism.

A graduate of Pace University, I was immersed in a world of diverse literature and journalism as a result of attending college in one of the US’s largest empires, New York City. At Pace, I majored in English and Sociology taking on several internships. My fascination with journalism came after my first internship with NBC News in 2019. NBC News gave me my first opportunity to work in a global newsroom among anchors such as Rachel Maddow, Lester Holt, and Today Show Cast… and on lucky days I even got to help out with the SNL Crew.

From NBC News, I transitioned to being an Editorial Assistant at BBC America and have had my works featured in several online platforms such as The Odyssey Online, Brick&Portal, Souler, and more! Fast forward, and I got my first On-Air job offer in Los Angeles to host for Erupt News. I have been capturing the stories of notable public figures, politicians, citizens, and more for KTAL NBC NEWS 6, RespectMusicTV, and Bleav Network ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey to becoming an On-Air News Anchor and Host has been far from easy. Being a young woman in broadcast journalism is tough on its own, but being an African-American/ POC woman in the industry comes with the extra baggage of its own. Whether it’s from the viewers, producers, or even your own colleagues: I constantly find myself working extra hard to be seen as equal to other journalists that are older, caucasian, or just men in general.

Overall, no matter what industry you are in African-American women have to work harder than the rest of their team to prove their value… and that can be really draining at times.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an On-Air Host and Journalist. I am known for going against the status quo by breaking news headlines and hosting events with a vibrant and witty charisma that is often missing in the broadcast news world.

I am most proud of hosting segments that highlight the stories of the LGBTQ+, Homeless, and POC communities in the United States. I promote diverse stories in every way that I can.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was definitely being able to grow up in the south, surrounded by a very rich culture fueled by music, food, and laughter.

I cannot think of a time in my childhood when I wasn’t eating soul food and hearing the stories of my elders while spiritual music played in the background. I truly think that is why I am so grounded as an adult- my roots are very strong.
