Meet Dali Ma of Truly Yours

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dali Ma.

Hi Dali, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my photography journey as a junior salesperson in a camera store in the UK. Back then I didn’t even know the difference between a point-and-shoot camera and a DSLR. During that time I learnt a lot about cameras and began to take photos on the street, luckily I was in England, with easy access to Europe where there are so many street photography opportunities. When I moved to the US, my friends were telling me that I should start doing model photography and fashion photography. So I reached out to some friends wanting them to be my models, and gradually built my portfolio.

Before long, I was in touch with model agencies and doing fashion photography for magazines and brands. Photography has opened many doors today for me, including a Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer at Purmulti, a starting fashion brand based in Shanghai. Today I enjoy doing photography both for work and for passion, and I would love to invite you to see my work at www.dali.studio.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My photography journey definitely has its ups and downs. Creator’s block is definitely something that most photographers or artists encounter at some or various points in their careers. The most difficult part is to keep being creative, thinking differently, and being inspired by what’s around you. But I think it’s also the fun of a creative job, you get to challenge yourself and better yourself with the help of the people and team around you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
This year, I combined the two branches of my business, marketing (www.dali.marketing) and photography (www.dali.studio) into one body, Truly Yours Inc. We specialize in digital marketing, including website design and development, SEO, lead generation, conversion optimization, email and content marketing, etc., along with fashion, wedding and product photography.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
What helped me the most was to keep on thinking and keep on shooting, and that’s the advice I’d like to share with people who are just starting out. With more opportunities to utilize your creative mind and chances to turn those mood boards into production, you’ll learn what you specialize in and what you need to improve on.
