Meet John Givez

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Givez.

Hi John, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started experimenting with music in a back room with my friends. We used a stage Mic with a sock over it & recorded ourselves then showed it to people in high school. It was of terrible quality but our peers received it well. I knew I found something in music back then. After high school, a lot of us went down different paths but what stayed similar was that drive to make it on our own. I kept making music & it kept me out of a lot of the drama in the streets. I used our upbringing to inspire the music I make. That put me in rooms I could only dream of being in. In 2016, I signed a deal with Interscope Records. My time there was like going to college for the music industry. I learned a lot & saw a lot that helped me find my self as an artist. In 2020, I left the label & have since been releasing music independently.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s been a bunch of ups & downs along the way. I’ve struggled & I’ve thrived. I think the key to it all is perseverance. Staying focused on my goals & taking steps every day to achieve them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an r&b/hip-hop recording artist originally from Oceanside, CA. I started out just singing hooks. Over time I grew into an emcee which catapulted me into a larger audience of listeners. I released a solo album in 2015 called “Soul Rebel” & it charted on Hip-hop Billboard’s top 10. Soon after, I did a couple of tours of the country & some international dates as well rapping, mostly. Since 2018, I’ve more recently fell back in love with r&b and have been releasing more music under that umbrella. I think what sets me apart from others is the ability to both emcee & sing equally great.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love the alchemist.
