Check Out Collin Michaels’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Collin Michaels.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am an Actor, Model, Author, Marine Corps Veteran growing up in a small town of Fremont, Nebraska. I always had this performance bug from a long line of entertainers such as my Grandfather would sing for his fellow soldiers in the 70s on deployments and my uncle who’s a pioneer Drag Queen from the mid-80s so, performing wasn’t something I happened to just fall into but it was certainly inevitable. My journey hasn’t been all glamor and glee and that’s why I have such an appreciation to be able to walk into studios such as Disney productions, Warner Brothers, ABC, CBS and have my opinion taken seriously. I believe taking the trauma that I have been through and sharing it with the world and showing that everyone goes through trials and tribulations is such a blessing to be in the position to do so.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road at all, from young childhood trauma, homelessness, couch surfing to catching a break and get on my own two feet. I will have to say that I’m very grateful to my younger self for taking the oath and joining the United States Marine Corps because not only did it assist with my professional and personal life but whenever I faced some turbulence I would turn to my creativity in Acting, Modeling, Writing, or even Practical Applications such as a run through in case of an active shooter and combat movements, to showcase to my fellow Marines you can be a resistant brute but there’s strength in vulnerability.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I stated before, I’m an Actor, Model, and Author. From a very young age I would volunteer for a Haunted Theatre in Nebraska who I met my mentor Wayne Sealy and he taught me about character development, a strong sense of imagination and he would tell me “if you’re scared of it, so will they”. That I took his teachings to Hawai’i 5-O, NCIS Hawai’i, Magnum P.I. All while I was serving in the United States Marine Corps and playing as the Lead in short films such as “Killer Oldies” produced by EchoWorld. Unfortunately, my mentor Wayne Sealy, had passed away this last November and I decided while I was out in Hawai’i Filming for a Todd Garner Production, I would join a Haunted Theatre to show homage to my mentor and teach this young theatre everything Wayne Sealy had created behind the scenes and the connection he instilled in me to the audience.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That everything isn’t permanent, to allow myself to take well-deserved breaks at times because no one and nothing lasts forever. As artists, we get so caught up in making the next best moves for our careers that we neglect our loved ones and overlook our well-being.
