Meet Andrew Krivonos and Dot Da Genius of The Brewery Recording Studio in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Krivonos and Dot Da Genius.

Andrew and Dot, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started the Brewery Recording Studio as a couple of 22 year olds in Brooklyn, NY. After building up on clientele that includes the likes of Kid Cudi, Skrillex, Joey Badass, Raekwon, and Jhene Aiko out of our boutique music studio in Williamsburg over the past 8 years, we decided it was necessary for us to open up a studio on the west coast.

In February of this year, we finally made the leap and opened our second studio in Burbank, CA, 15 min from Hollywood. We’ve taken our boutique music studio from the indie scenes of NY music to the Hollywood forefront. Six months later, our west coast clientele is growing fast with a fully staffed studio and multi-functional studio spaces.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any business, we’ve been on the ropes quite a few times. Eleven months after we first opened our doors in Brooklyn back in 2008, we had to move out of our newly built-out facility and cut our lease short because of noisy neighbors who had moved in around us. We had to design and build out the current studio in just 5 weeks, all done DIY.

After finding success in NYC, we were on the hunt for another location in New York to open a second studio. But months of disappointing real estate lead us to consider other options.

In January of this year, we linked with producer Sak Pase who had been leasing this warehouse in Burbank. Everything started clicking for expansion in LA, like it wasn’t in NY. Andrew flew out in January to check it out and by February we were DIY building out rooms again. And before March we were open in Burbank.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the the Brewery Recording Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
The Brewery Recording Studio operates fully-staffed boutique music facilities in Burbank and in Brooklyn. Our personalized environment, affordable rates, and one-artist-at-a-time approach has made our studio a staple for developing artists. Our staff of chart-topping engineers and producers draw as much attention as our beautiful facility. Recording artists and musicians can book in with one of our many experienced engineers or producers and can work on creating, recording, or mixing/mastering their music.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The music industry is changing faster than ever. As many large-format commercial recording studios have closed their doors because of high operating costs, we’ve tried to create a new model that keeps our overhead lower and thus transfers in more affordable pricing for our clients. Today, more and more artists are recording at home or in their own studio, but you will never be able to replace the experiences ears of professional engineers and producers. Clients love our studio for the environment and trust our Brew Crew to deliver the polish to their mixes.

Pricing:

  • $95/hr with engineer
  • $150/hr with producer
