Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Ticas.
Brian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back in 2018, I just started taking photos from my old iPhone 7 of different sceneries, people, and some animals. Towards the end of 2019, I asked my father to borrow his camera that was just up in the closet. I took that to a family member’s wedding and started to just play around and take some photos.
I immediately fell in love with photography. Early 2020 came around and we were in the strictest era of COVID lockdowns. I needed to find something to kill time. I went onto Amazon and got myself a basic camera kit. It was perfect to start learning. Through various YouTube videos and a lot of time spent on the internet; I was able to start working and honing my skills. In the fall of 2021, I started taking things a bit more serious and started taking photos for my old high school’s football team. When I realized I was at least decent at photography, I started to take it more serious. I started buying better equipment and putting myself out there. A couple of notable highlights of my journey include working with a sneaker consignment store called The Liquor. I’m a huge sneaker-head so combining my two favorite hobbies into one was an incredible moment. Another would include working with UNDRGRND Magazine. This really helped propel my career and expand my name. With the help of Michael Pofsky and Andrew Mason, I’ve been able to accomplish what I thought would never happen. I’ve made so many connections, experiences, memories and new friendships. Today, I stand proud of what I do and who I am. The things I’ve accomplished and the things I plan to accomplish. However, all this would never be what it is without the support I’ve received from my friends and family. Special thanks to my family, my best friend/brother Andrew, Pofsky and Andrew Mason and most importantly, my parents.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, I would say that throughout the entirety of my photography journey, everything has been pretty smooth. Fortunately, there hasn’t been any huge defining struggles I’ve had to face.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When it comes to my work and the photos I specialize in, it’s hard to say. I do a lot of different types of photography such as portraits, automotive, product photography and more. As far as what I’m known for, I would say definitely sports photography since that’s where I started. In terms of my work, I’m proud of everything I put out. I try to display quality images but that’s always subjective, so I do my best. I think what sets me apart from other photographers lies on the business side of things. When I do photo shoots for people, I tend to have a quick turnaround time for their finished products while still giving them my highest quality work.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I feel like there’s two lessons that go together and hold the same level of importance that I’ve learned along my journey. These two are: it’s more about who you know than what you know and make sure to surround yourself and work with the right people. Working with the wrong people can hold you back.
