Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Moore.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Where do I begin! I had worked out for years but got serious in early 2013 about my goals. The following year, I started training for my first figure show. At the time of competing, I was bartending 5 nights a week at a local restaurant and had started personal training clients on the side both in person and online. I had ordered my first figure suit from a person I had found on social media. It was a custom order, and I had very little communication with the designer. I ended up receiving my suit the day before my first show. It was frustrating to me because I had no idea if I would even have a suit to stand onstage with, I had no backup suit, and no idea what was going on.
Once I received my suit, I looked at my husband and told him “I’m going to make these”. After my first show, we were pretty broke, my husband spend our last $100 on a sewing machine for me. We got some materials, and I learned how to sew bikinis. The following year, I was open for business taking orders and slowly building my business-learning the ins and the outs and trial and error of suit designing.
Later that year, my husband was in a near-death motorcycle accident, and 1 week later, I was let go from my bartending job (first time in my working career I had ever been let go from a job). I was in complete tears wondering what we were going to do to pay our bills, as my husband was not back to work yet from his crash. It was either sink or swim.
Over the following years, I built up the business more and more, and this past year (2022) was just insane! I sponsor shows in Hawaii and picked up more shows in the Pacific Northwest as well! I literally cannot how much this business has grown. And I attribute it to TRANSPARENCY, COMMUNICATION, and just doing the right dang thing!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think anything worth having comes easy all the time! Challenges I faced early on was that I was building a business from the ground up! Finding business was huge! I remember my first time I had 10 suits on the calendar for one month, and that was a lot for me! Now I get out about 10+ suits per week! Building and growing was tough! I didn’t have a lot of connections at the time. I was lucky to bring in my first sponsored athlete in Hawaii, and business grew at an insane rate there! So I started duplicating that in areas!
In 2020, business came to a screeching halt, and I thought business would never be the same. Shows were canceled, the gym we trained clients out of was closed amid the global pandemic, so we got busy making masks. Shows picked up, but then the rhinestone company I use announced the following year they would be cutting off people who buy their product to resale (or remake). It was a challenge to pull resources to buy enough since others started mass purchasing materials as well.
It has all worked out at the end of the day, I feel blessed to have had bumps in the road to make this company even more special to me today!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I hand-make stage bikinis for the bodybuilding competitions! I also hand-make custom swimwear. I am known for making clients shine on stage! I am proud of this business because I truly started from nothing, and now it is where it is today! We ship worldwide and create for clients across the US, Guam, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, and many other countries.
I think what sets us apart from others is the relationships I build with my clients. They are not just a dollar sign to me. I follow their journey on social media, and I will be their biggest cheerleader! I also know that the quality I put out is amazing. And every single item I make is custom-made for my clients.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I have lived in Orange County my entire life! My mom and I moved down to Laguna Hills when I was 5. My dad still lived in Diamond Bar, and I was blessed to be able to be raised both in OC and the IE.
I love Lake Forest! I love how quiet and safe it is. I love the amount of hiking is available so close to here.
What I least like about my city is cost of living continues to rise and is just about out of control. While I understand prices of everything goes up each year, it is insane what a 1 and 2 bedroom apartment rents for here.
