Daily Inspiration: Meet Gerardo Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerardo Morales.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I begin to play music at the age of 12 years old, learning guitar and drums at the same time. My cousin first showed me a couple of things. Around the age of 18, I began to attend Pasadena city College, then Pasadena Conservatory. I’ve been a professional musician for more than 20 years; I am teaching Artist at the Neighborhood Music school in Boyle Heights. I’m a recording artist that just released the song EP.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been very challenging to be a professional musician, especially in the city of Los Angeles there’s so much competition. It’s a constant struggle. I definitely have to practice for hours every day

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in classical and Flamenco guitar. I’m also a professional drummer/percussionist. Also, music producer and composer. I’m proud of myself for never giving up on my dream of being professional. I am proud to share the stage with so many amazing artists. I believe with sets me apart is that I know so many different styles

What do you think about happiness?
I truly love being in the wilderness, love to drive to the desert and mountains. I love the desolation of emptiness. I’m able to gather my thoughts and find myself in silence. I love being around my family and friends. I love teaching at the Neighborhood Music school. Just truly grateful for everything.
