Today we’d like to introduce you to Deuce The Truth. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Deuce The Truth, an American Rapper from South Berkeley, CA, was born with a passion in performing arts. At the age of 11, Deuce was required to cite poetry skillfully taught by his 6th-grade teacher Ms. Hall which gave him the foundation to eventually create songs and write lyrics. Growing up, Deuce turfed danced until one day forming the rap group called “The Teknitionz” which featured deuce and three of his childhood friends from South Berkeley. In 2007, The Teknitionz were presented with an appreciation award from the city of Berkeley for inspiring creativity and drive amongst the youth of the city. Deuce brands himself off of his lifestyle and motto of “truth.” What began as a way to occupy time, instead of hanging out in the streets, flourished into a career choice once Deuce enrolled at Pinnacle Sound Master College in Sacramento, CA. It was there at Pinnacle College that Deuce gained skills in post-production, audio engineering, and mastering audio. Upon graduation, Deuce moved to Los Angeles in the year 2012 to push his career further. Deuce is currently a rap artist, actor, and certified audio engineer. Having lost many friends and acquaintances to gun violence, Deuce The Truth strives to promote peace and truth through his music which is influenced by Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues, and also R&B.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road that I’ve traveled could be made into a movie. I’ve seen it all and done it all and yet my story still isn’t finished. My family descends from the projects of New Orleans, Louisiana, and I was raised in the Bay Area where nothing comes easy. I’ve had to battle with friends being murdered, engaging/disengaging in illegal activities in order to pay bills, and questioning whether or not I should give up my pursuit of a career in the entertainment industry. I also battle with choosing to work or spend time with family. My father was not present in my life so I fill that void by being the best father I could be, but the cost of that is the time I could be putting in to get ahead in my career.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, entertainer, songwriter, audio engineer, and actor. I am most proud of where I come from and how it’s influenced my sound. The Bay Area is a mecca of the music industry. A lot of sounds and styles in the industry originate and are influenced by the Bay Area. I’ve been able to combine southern masculinity and Bay Area bravado into one and create well-rounded albums/mixtapes that resonate with people on the west coast, down south, and the East.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The advice I would give is to live in your truth. We live in a world where most creativity is a mimic of someone else’s original idea. I believe that everyone has their own unique story and outlook on the world. Therefore, if we’re confident in who we are and where we come from, that is what’s going to stand out and set you apart from others.
