Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Karago.
Hi Ray, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Kenya, East Africa, I spent some time in the UK where I fell in love with the arts. From doing drama classes in school, I was able to take Drama courses in London which resulted in a performance of Sister Act at Her Majesty’s Theatre (I played Eddy).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, I am bipolar and have dealt with various breakdowns over the course of my life. In many communities of color, mental health can be a taboo subject and it has not always been easy asking for help. I have attempted suicide three times in my life and have been institutionalized twice. Luckily I have a strong support system of friends and family and a strong belief in God, and all this has been helpful. I also have an amazing therapist that without a doubt has saved my life.
We’ve been impressed with The Cat Productions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We launched fairly recently; we are a film production company and have two shorts under our belt (Kareem’s Oorah and the multi-award-winning Gun Too Soon) with a proof of concept currently in the works as well as a feature we are in the process of getting together and several scripts we are pitching. Our additional services include preparing pitch decks and show bibles for other filmmakers.
Any big plans?
As previously said, we have a proof of concept we are filming as part of a feature we are getting off the ground and are very excited about. We also have several scripts that are in the works.
Pricing:
- Consultation $60
- Pitch Decks $350 (with an additional strategy folder)
- Budgets $500
- Script Consulting $75 per hour
