Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Frizzelle.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Haha, the question of how I started always prompts me to ask myself, “where do I start?”
At this point, life is beginning to feel like a “map of stars” in the sky and I’m connecting dots to create different animals, objects, stories, and abstracts that I find appealing.
As an Author, Actor, Mental Health coach/advocate, podcaster (and any other hyphens), It’s truly me creating art with my life; The pictures can change sometimes, giving things a second look may create a different picture altogether, but since it’s my life I remind myself I’m the artist, and since my life experiences are like stars, I always make sure I’m “looking up” no matter what.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth one bit and yet that’s the blessing in it. I remind myself: I choose to show up better, do better, be better, treat others better, and offer a better perspective with the experience of my journey; not recreate that for someone else.
We are told that the reason someone behaves poorly is that they’ve been through hardship and while yes that’s true, I feel that’s not always the whole truth or a “one size fits all”. I feel at times that gives a pass to move through life without the accountability of how we may impact others. Some of the kindest people I know have weathered storms and decided to be “sunshine” instead. Having my own hardships remind me that I made a choice to be bigger than my burdens, and my challenges.
You don’t have to be perfect, just be authentic and intentional.
Experience gives you experience, perspective, awareness, as well as choice. I remind myself: in the people I meet there is someone who wants to feel like they matter and I have the ability to treat someone like they matter (myself included) despite a rocky road… and now I want ice cream.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What do I not do?!
I’m an actor, I’m a Mental health and Fitness coach…
I recently went to a premiere of a film I’m in, “Voodoo Macbeth” which is now in theaters, and what a feeling!! Hard work and Heart work pays off. Just keep going!
As a Mental Health Coach and Fitness coach, working with people to take better care of themselves mentally and or physically is nothing short of rewarding to me. I take that work seriously since it is literally affecting someone’s future self. It takes a village to raise a child but we will always need a village of the right people around us to make sure we are living life and not just surviving it.
I have a podcast that turned 4 this year : Half Mental Health, Half Horror short stories, and I absolutely love it. We just hit 200 episodes!!
My voice is in rooms and countries I haven’t even been to yet and that is amazing!! Consistency and conviction do matter and doing the things you love will show up in both.
I’m a published Author. I wrote and illustrated an adult coloring/workbook that focuses on healing the inner child while allowing them (you) to color along the way. Being able to walk into Barnes and Noble and see my book on the shelf…My words, my drawings, that’s a feeling I’ve yet to be able to define.
The world encourages you to be yourself (within limits) but if you truly give yourself room to just be you, a lot comes out of that.
I like that I wear many hats because it reminds me that I’m living authentically and I’m challenging myself. I remind myself that there’s no such thing as “failure” when you’re learning something new about yourself, but also how you see the world and exist in it. The impact that I’ve had is something I don’t take lightly since it is a reminder that I am influencing the lives of others in one way or another. I want to make sure I’m doing it the right way.
You’re unique by design and I take it literally.
What matters most to you?
“Repetition is reputation”.
I prioritize being valued more than I desire to be liked. People can like you for many reasons: You self-deprecate and that makes them feel better about themselves, you like all the yellow M&Ms and they get a kick out of it, or maybe something else altogether but they “like you” until they don’t. If you are valued, that has intention, that has investment, that has an impact, that has longevity and to be valued means that you have a level of consistency and integrity to who you are and how you move through life. You’re being you!
Your “you” influences everything moving forward: Relationships, self-perception, external outlook, work, you name it!
I also place a heavy emphasis on community. Your people, your connections: seeing them as investments rather than just distractions or accessories to your life matters ! We overlook just how much time is actually spent consuming information, energy, and the time we spend with others. It’s currency. It’s worth being mindful of who you are sharing yourself with.
