Life & Work with Bec Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bec Morris.

Hi Bec, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a choreographer, dancer, and creative now living in Los Angeles. I originally grew up in Sydney, Australia, and moved to the US in 2017 to pursue my dreams. Five years down the track, I have and I continue to live that life, evolve my dreams and create new opportunities for myself and my career.

I’m only here today because my mother gave me that opportunity. She was also a performer when she was young (now a primary school teacher) and she introduced me to dance at the age of 2. Until I was 16 I had never trained in hip hop and street styles (which has now my main style) having been technically trained at Australia’s largest and most successful dance school – Brent Street.

The year I moved to LA I was 25, still living at home with stable work. Coming out here was bigger than a big step but I took the leap and it definitely has paid off.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There will always be bumps in the road… on any road.

Recently it has been bumpier (thanks to the big changes the world all witnessed together) however, everything is temporary and negatives are needed to balance out the positives. I’ve practiced a lot of patience and understanding and mental strength these last few months but I remain positive that my time is right around the next corner!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When moving to the USA I wanted to dance while I still had it (physically) in my body. In my first year here I danced with Nicki Minaj at the Made In America festival, MTV VMA’s, the EMA’s in Spain, The Ellen Degeneres show, Saturday Night Live, music videos & more, as well as Big Sean, Tyga, and YG.

I also went on tour with J Balvin for his ‘Arcoiris’ Tour around the US, Canada, Mexico, and South America. This is where I’ve had one of my biggest career highlights/favorite moments: My parents flew from Australia to see me perform in the tour show in Phoenix. I will NEVER forget the moment I found them in the arena, beaming up at me with immense pride.

But I’ve always known dance was a “stepping stone” for me and that I really belonged behind the camera.
So since then, I’ve had the pleasure of choreographing and creatively directing for JoJo (US Tour 2022, The Kelly Clarkson Show, SummerFest, and multiple other live performances and music videos). I also choreographed music videos for Jennifer Lopez and Stevie Mackey, Danna Paola, and pianist Chloe Flower.

I love to create, I love inspiring others. That’s the overall goal; to make people feel joy, elation, excitement, and awe when they watch my work. I just want to do it on a bigger and better scale!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always looking for new creative projects. If you’re a director, producer, manager, artist, etc, I’d love the opportunity to collaborate with you.
