Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Gray.
Hi Monique, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My story began during the pandemic. When I decided to take one of my passion projects full throttle. I entered the brewing industry as a home brewer making cider and here I am now.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Transitioning from home brewing to commercial brewing is where the obstacle presents itself. Obstacles for me look like finding locations big enough to brew larger batches, and making a consistent tasting cider every time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a proud black homebrewer of cider. I specialize in making HARD cider. I am most proud of being a judge for Portlands International Cider Cup. Currently, I have received entry to the Cider Institute of North America Cider& Perry production program. What sets me apart from others is that I strive to have the 1st black female-owned cidery in California. Nobody else is doing that right now
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice for those starting out would be to do your research and keep those creative juices flowing, stay humble and remain teachable, and last but not least find your tribe.
