Meet Sam Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Jordan.

Hi Sam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Being born and raised in the Bay Area, I was always close to the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma. However, it wasn’t until I left the Bay and spent several years living and traveling around Europe that I grew to appreciate and become interested in the World of Wine.

It was around the same time that I moved back to California that my father and I purchased a vineyard in Alexander Valley, Sonoma. From there we brought on a great local winemaker and started producing our varietal, Red Bear.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our road has been relatively smooth, however, we always have to consider the many factors affecting our product. For example, being a Northern California wine, we are always very concerned about rainfall, water reserves, heat, and fires. All of these factors can drastically change the outcome of a year’s crop.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Along with my father, we run the winery Red Bear. We are a boutique winery based, produced, and bottled in Sonoma County. We have been selling Cabernet Sauvignon since 2018 and just as of recently 2019. Our wine is known for exceptional grape quality and a smooth, very approachable taste.

Every year we are proud of the wines that we produce, from year to year there are slight variations but this is what makes the industry fun, knowing that no two years will be alike. We aren’t like either winery in the Sonoma and Napa areas because of our approach to wine. Our goal is to put a bottle of red on every family’s lunch, dinner, or snack table.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned that I have to stick with it. Many things in life and especially in this industry take a long time to grow and develop. In the case of wine, this is quite literal. Having the patience to wait two years until a bottle is done has taught me just how much of virtue this is.
