Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Murray.
Tim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as a musical theatre performer and transitioned into comedy in my 20s. I started doing sketch comedy and improv which lead to my career as a stand-up comedian. Now I’m performing my hour of musical comedy that encompasses all of those things called Tim Murray is Witches debuting at Dynasty Typewriter in Echo Park.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Moving to Los Angeles from NYC was very challenging. It was hard to feel like I was starting over at 30 but I’m so glad I did it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Most people know me from my viral TikTok comedy videos, but some people around LA know me from my live stand-up shows. I regularly perform at Akbar in Silverlake. It’s an amazing gay bar. I’m most proud of my current day job – teaching improv in rehab facilities.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Just get up and perform as much as possible. Worrying about failing is the main thing that holds people back. It deeply sucks but just get up and bomb doing comedy and once you’ve survived, that literally nothing else in life feels scary because you’ve done what I think is the scariest thing on Earth.
