Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel and Jeanette Perez.
They say everything happens for a reason and that may be true for Daniel & Jeanette. During the winter of 2006 on a regular snowboarding trip with friends, Daniel would end up in the ER at a nearby hospital with a broken clavicle. Due to the injury, Daniel was unable to work because his job at the time required heavy lifting. During his time off from work, he began drawing again, a hobby he had picked up while in high school. He decided he wanted to put his artwork on t-shirts and sell them to make extra money. Daniel proposed the business to his sister Jeanette who at the time was working at the World Trade Center in Long Beach.
They started in their parent’s garage with one manual press. Daniel printed and Jeanette did sales. They began selling their graphic t-shirts and offering screen-printing on the side, word spread and so did the demand for screen-printing. That is when the Perez siblings decided to open a print shop and they decided to call it Ink Head Prints.
With hard work and perseverance, they moved from their parent’s garage to a small 600 square foot location in the city of South Gate. As they continued to grow, they quickly outgrew that space and moved to the city of Paramount where they are currently located and have six times the space.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There definitely have been bumps in the road, some bigger than others, but they have all been a learning experience for Daniel & Jeanette. When they first began Ink Head Prints it was just the two of them and they actually had to have other jobs on the side in order to support themselves. It was an exciting day when they got to hire their first team member; it gave them a little more time to focus on the bigger picture. Soon enough they hired their second, third, fourth, etc. team members, currently Ink Head Prints is a team of fourteen! As they have grown year over year and added new team members, products, departments, processes, clients, etc. they have had to not only plan strategies, but also manage and create the processes along the way. Daniel & Jeanette have had to be the printer, catcher, cleaning crew, accountant, sales person, graphic designer, HR, marketing, etc. They have done it all because they have had to, it is their business and they have built it from nothing to what it is today. Luckily Daniel & Jeanette have been blessed with a great team, every individual who has or currently does work at Ink Head Prints has contributed in one way or another to the success.
