Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Fam.
Hi Sally, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a kid. I’ve always wanted to become an Architect. I had so much curiosity about buildings and interiors. My family would find me drawing buildings on paper napkins in restaurants as I waited for the food to come. I followed my passion and I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture Engineering in Alexandria, Egypt. I then joined the family business and worked as an architect. For ten years, I was designing apartment buildings, luxury Interiors for private villas, and custom furniture. During those 10 years, I developed an even stronger passion for the interior design industry as well as for entrepreneurship. After moving to Southern California in 2007, I wanted to keep doing what I’m passionate about, Through my observation, I found that there was a gap between the interior design industry and architecture. I became a certified Interior designer in California and established A.I.D. Innovate Inc. in 2012 to bridge this gap and service clients in a unique way. My vision for the firm is derived from my love and strength in both Architecture and Interior design. I wanted to deliver interior architectural design solutions as a service to the people who are looking for that specialty. Our Interior design firm can reconfigure floor plans and bring on interior architecture concepts that go beyond choosing the right sofa for the space. This year is our 10th year in the business, I am very grateful to be waking up each morning, doing what I love to do, bringing joy to our clients who entrust us with their projects.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was quite a struggle to start the business here in Socal as I had moved recently and didn’t know anyone working in the same industry. I had to tap into any and all the resources that I can find. I am very grateful for NGOs like The Inland Empire Woman Business Center and the SBA who through them I got a lot of help and education to launch my business. Another struggle I had was learning the different terminologies and systems for the industry which are very different from where I practiced before in other countries.
The first couple of years the business was slow, but I just kept trusting in the process and kept showing up and perfecting every project, small or large. Over time, my clients were very happy and started referring my business to their friends until the referrals started to generate larger projects. At the same time, the business’s name started popping up organically on different search engines which expanded our exposure.
Running a business while having four young children was definitely another big challenge. To balance my time for both and give work and family 100% of my attention, I needed to develop a system so I can grow my business as well as my kids. Luckily, as they grew up, they too felt ownership and became team players in the business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
This pandemic gave me a chance to take an in-depth look at how we as humans value the places we occupy. We were blessed with so many interior design projects during covid. A lot of the homeowners had dreams about their homes and never had the time to make them happen so they reached out to us. Also, businesses had the opportunity to change their layouts and materials and do major renovations while their employees were working from home. We were grateful for several large projects of this kind.
During Covid, I learned to look at current difficulties as present opportunities. We are grateful as a firm to have been able to offer our interior design services to people who needed them and bring them joy and comfort as they see their dreams turn into realities during such a difficult time.
