Meet Doug and Deena Willis of up2date Real Estate in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug and Deena Willis.

Doug and Deena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The year was 2002 and I felt if I was going to make a change now would be the time. I had obtained my real estate license and always wanted to be my own boss. I told my boss I was leaving.

I joined a local brokerage to gain a little understanding of the processes involved and four months later I had my broker’s license. My wife obtained her real estate license a few months later. We bought a franchise and me and my wife got started.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Commission sales is hardly ever a smooth process, you have your good months and then you have months that you would like to forget. Also, when you are a husband and wife team your job is always front and center. It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do, it is always right there. The good thing is we can cover for each other and we are usually up to date on each other’s files.

Please tell us about up2date Real Estate.
Our specialty is residential real estate. We work with home buyers and sellers. We also do income property and have experienced with distressed properties or Short Sales.

When you work with us you get one or the other. We do not pass you off to a less experienced agent to handle your transaction and we always answer our phone. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to call other agents and always go into voice mail.

We are proud of the reputation we have in the industry and among our peers. We strive to know everything we can about the property we represent and create a first class representation. We understand how to market on the internet, how to reach homebuyers and how to create a “WOW” factor.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Waiting outside in the car while my dad went in to meet with the owners who were selling a litter of puppies. He brought out a collie puppy and it was love at first sight. That is why we recognized the desire our daughter had when she told us she wanted a dog or baby brother. She got the dog.
