Hi Marijane, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into makeup started back in 2010. I knew I wanted to do something in beauty but hair always seemed so intimidating and I didn’t know what other options were out there. One day I was walking through the mall and saw they were opening a Sephora. Because I didn’t have any experience they wanted to place me as a cashier but I begged them for the opportunity to try makeup. Well, they took a chance on me! Honestly, it did not come naturally to me. I struggled but was determined. After about six months I decided I wanted to attend makeup school so I enrolled at Elegance International in Hollywood. There I had more time to learn fundamentals and build confidence in what I was doing. I took what I learned there and applied it to all the different face shapes, skin tones, and eye shapes that walked through the doors of Sephora. Over the years I gained experience and became a resource and helped train other artists and eventually became a beauty class facilitator there. I eventually stepped out and took on bridal parties and that is where the magic happened! I love working with brides and their families and friends on the happiest day of their lives. You can really feel the love in the room. I also started spray tanning four years ago and loved layering that into my business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some struggles were:
– Originally being terrible at makeup
– Getting out from comfortable corporate and venturing on my own
– Learning how to run a business and being efficient
– Balance of being a mom and business owner
– Building a clientele
– Learning a new craft to add into my business
– Going back to school while having a small child and working full time
There have been many challenges but that is what makes it an even more rewarding journey. I think it’s important to not let overwhelm or fear take over and prevent you from growing. Whenever a new challenge arrises I just focus on the next step. I’m also very lucky to have an amazing support system of friends and family that continue to encourage me and are always in my corner.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a makeup artist and spray tanner that specializes in bridal makeup. Most of the clients are women who want to look and feel like the best version of themselves. I am known for radiant natural glam. What sets me apart from others is the experience I give and the connection I have with my clients.
Services I offer are tanning, an in room primed and pampered facial to relax the bride on her wedding day, and bridal glam. Because of my experience, I can confidently walk in a room knowing I can handle pretty much anything thrown at me. I create a seamless timeline to keep everything on track.
I’m most proud of starting from nothing to having the most amazing clientele and even achieving “Best of Ventura County” I’m also just proud of my business and know that I make my brides planning and getting ready process seamless and that brides can pause and just be in the moment and enjoy the process with me.
What makes you happy?
I love when a client has full trust in me and I can deliver the look they wanted.
I love the connection that happens during a glam session and the real conversations I’ve had with women.
I love seeing the boost in confidence that happens right before my eyes when women look and feel good and feel empowered or sexy.
It brings me great joy to celebrate important milestones in my client’s lives with them and meet their families and friends from their referrals
