Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAnna Mac.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
l started off building my nonprofit Speed4Change in early 2021. I always knew I wanted to pour into my community and I discovered ways how once I was done with undergrad. I began collecting toiletries and collecting with other organizations. Speed4Change is dedicated to raising mental health awareness in black and brown communities in south-central. My friends and I are really firm on mental health and self-care. The HealingHomegirl literally started as a conversation on Twitter joking amongst friends, and me stating I was going to start a blog on anxiety relief techniques. One day I was having a rough day and I just began to write and created my first blog.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. I am still learning and figuring things out for The HealingHomegirl and Speed4Change. When you don’t have too many people around you doing the same things as you, you have no one to look to for advice or guidance. I created my website in my own and registered my business and sought out everything I needed for my business in my own. I’m facing obstacles as far as funding, resources and even content creation and advertisement. I figure everything out though, step by step, day by day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I guess I can say I specialize I’m promoting Mental health awareness. That’s where I started and that’s where I’ll continue to grow. I seek to raise awareness within our communities and key people know it’s never too late to sell hello and your mental health matters.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future is to grow my platform as The HealingHomegirl and as Speed4Change and continue to educate my people and expand. Currently, I’m trying to transition to getting ready for my law school journey.
