Today we’d like to introduce you to Rahan Alemi.
Hi Rahan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in modeling and becoming a public figure began when I was about 13 years old. I am a singer, and I have had this passion since I was really young, hence my social media usernames being RahansRhythm. I started off my social media accounts with singing videos, but soon after I followed in my sister @hellobarbee’s footsteps in modeling and started attending photoshoots with her. This became a bonding activity between my sister and I, and through the years we grew to become best friends because of it. I started doing runway, editorial, and freelance modeling, including a lot of advertisements for large fashion and beauty brands. Within the past three years, I became a public figure on TikTok as well. This allowed me to connect with the Muslim, Middle Eastern and South Asian communities on social media. This tapped into my culture and beliefs which allowed me to grow as a person, become closer to my religion and be more involved in my own community. Because of social media, I was able to connect with my religion of Islam more. And my modeling progressed into more modest fashion which ultimately led me to officially put on the hijab on August 13, 2021. I had to delete over 300 photos and many viral videos of the past years on both TikTok and Instagram because I decided to take this next journey in my life. Now I am a modest, high fashion model and influencer. I am so blessed for this journey and to everyone who has been a part of it. I am happy to be a source of inspiration for women out there who are experiencing a similar journey as I and to reassure them that they too should have the confidence to be proud public Muslim woman.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been blessed in many ways and I’m very grateful, however, it has not been a smooth road. Getting to this point in my career has taken many years and sacrifices in my life. Balancing school, work, family, religion, the gym and on top of that having the pressures of being a social media influencer and model. And of course with social media, you are guaranteed to receive hate. Receiving hate can sometimes be overwhelming especially when you don’t publicize the difficulties you’re facing to the public, and them judging you regardless of even knowing who you are. However, the positivity and support outweigh any negative and both allow me to work on myself, continue my passion and be a better role model for others.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hijabi/modest fashion model and influencer @RahansRhythm. I am also a full-time student and work full-time in my legal career. I am proud to have accomplished representing both beauty and brains, encouraging beautiful educated women. What sets me apart is the diversity in my page. I don’t follow one certain niche or style, but I represent fashion and beauty of all cultures and aesthetics.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about our city is the environment. I am an integral part in a group of ambitious and hard-working professionals striving to achieve their best life. I love being surrounded by like-minded people and being able to confidently be a Muslim woman in the industry and represent. There isn’t really anything I dislike about our city.
