Today we’d like to introduce you to James, Kevin, & Steve Broussard.
A landmark of excellence, Doctor J Automotive has served Huntington Beach since 1987. The family owned and operated business is dedicated to providing the best in technical expertise for both domestic and import vehicles.
The founder, James Broussard, started his pursuit of automotive excellence in 1971 while working exclusively on Datsun and specializing in the ‘Z cars. He developed a reputation for his attention to detail and cleanliness while wearing a white lab coat.
James became known to customers as ‘Doctor Z’.
Building on that reputation and with factory training and a commitment to excellence, in 1978 he made his vision for an experienced, honest and dedicated repair facility a reality. AAA certified since 1983 we offer one of the longest warranties available, 2 years/24K miles. This is just one of many reasons why Doctor J Automotive is considered Orange County’s premier auto service center.
As young boys in the 1980’s and 1990’s growing up in the automotive business Kevin and Steve spent summers and holidays working in the shop with their father. Kevin continued on to Long Beach State graduating with a Business Degree, while Steve stayed in the business and continued to master his craft.
Today, James, Kevin, and Steve work together specializing in Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, and all Hybrids. They maintain all the latest equipment and software. All their technicians are ASE certified.
Doctor J offers routine vehicle maintenance packages at every 3,000 miles, 7,500 miles, 15/45,000 miles, and 30/60/90,000 miles. They also specialize in Brake Fluid Exchange, Complete Cooling System Service, Complete Automatic Transmission Service, Fuel Injection/Air Induction System Cleaning, Power Steering Fluid Service and much more.
The facility offers courtesy shuttle during operating hours and after hours drop off service for its customer’s convenience.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For many years in the early 1990’s all the roads around our automotive complex were either unfinished or shut down due to expansion in the city. The recession hit and all city improvement projects were put on hold leaving our business out in the middle of nowhere. Our dedicated customers continued to drive over and through all the obstacles to have their cars worked on by the Doctor. But the closure of the area roads prevented us from attracting new customers.
By 2000, the home building in the area was in full swing and the roads were complete.
We begin to grow as a business and our reputation preceded us.

I personally define success as the happiness of our customers and employees. We seek out the reviews and talk to the customers consistently to see what we can do to make their experience a positive one. Our employees on average have been with us for many years giving the business the stability and reliability people are looking for in a technician that they can trust.
