Meet Christina Tran of Tangerine Event Planning & Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Tran.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out like any other bride-to-be. “What exactly does a wedding coordinator DO? Do I really need one?” I started asking around all my married friends and the answer was unanimous. YOU NEED A WEDDING COORDINATOR. A few months later, my sister introduced me to Catherine (Cat, for short) and we totally clicked. My now husband and I decided to hire her and as you can guess, it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship and business. We worked so well together that I fell in love with wedding planning and design.

The idea started forming in my head, and not too much long after, Tangerine Event Planning & Design was born.

Over the past two years, Tangerine has grown tremendously. With the support of our close friends, loved ones, and so many wonderful couples and friend-ors (friends + vendors) along the way, we have been blessed to have made it where we are now. Our first ever styled shoot was published on Inspired By This, an amazing lifestyle site, and our second year has been twice as successful as our first. We are off to a strong start but this is just the very beginning for us!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We’ve been really lucky to have a great support system behind us as we began our Tangerine journey. I think one of the struggles we had being a new small business was getting our name out there amongst all of the already established community of planners.

Being new, it is difficult to get potential new clients to trust your work if you have little proof. However, we were blessed to have amazing couples as clients right off the bat. With their glowing reviews of our work, alongside the friendly referrals from vendors we’ve worked with who have seen our abilities, we’ve been able to get off the ground and really begin to grow our brand.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tangerine Event Planning & Design – what should we know?
Tangerine Event Planning & Design is a wedding planning service for the quirky, fun-loving bride. While we get couples who range from overly trusting to extremely detail oriented, most of our clients are just really looking to make their wedding stand out amongst the others, and enjoy the big day. In order to do that, one must look at the details. And that is where Cat and I come in. Cat and I are a dynamic duo team. While we coordinate many weddings on our own, we often like to work together as we complement each other well. We love to accentuate those details that make a wedding unique to that particular couple, whether it is a customized handmade banner, a dessert station made with love, or a simple newlywed sneak away to eat Mexicali fast food before a reception.

We love to make those little moments and little details stand out — because after all, the bride and groom want to remember their big day as a fabulous and fun experience, not all lets-just-get-it-over-with-please.

A special thank you goes out to my husband, Matthew, who stays up with me while I work late into the night and is always my biggest supporter. My sister Mimi, seen in the group photo provided, is our best assistant and an irreplaceable asset to the team.

Jennifer Fujikawa of Jen Fuj Photography has been so wonderful as well, being one of our first great friends in the business. She’s been a great mentor to us. And last but definitely not least, Alan Silva from Artistique Imagery has been one of our biggest supporters from the very beginning. Without him, we could have never gotten off the ground so quickly and he has become a great friend as well.
