Today we’d like to introduce you to Dasi B
Hi Dasi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair professionally in 1999, back when wheels were made of rocks! I was just a wee maniac, had no idea the choice I was making would grow into something so perfect for me that I would love so dearly. Within a few years, I discovered I was most drawn to hair extensions, between the instant gratification and how rewarding it felt to see restored confidence in my clients, I was hooked baby! So for a while now, that has been my primary focus. I recently created a workshop to share my extension methods with other stylists. For nearly eight years, I’ve had my own studio. I get to work out of a beautiful environment and do what I love. Pretty incredible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew! Ya got a minute?! Haha! When I first moved to LA and started to do hair, I was working multiple jobs while also putting in crazy hours at the salon building my clientele. Basically living off of fast food, no furniture, would eat off of a paper bag on the floor. Oof! I believe they call those years “character building” 😉 For the first several years of my career, I worked seven days a week 12 hours a day, building, building, building. Went through countless toxic salon environments and situations. Learned the hard way to create boundaries so I could keep enough of myself to still be able to give to others. I accomplished everything I have now through many years of non-stop hustle and good ol fashioned hard freakin work. Feels great. I’m of the opinion that with the right mindset, skills, and determination, anything is possible.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hairstylist specializing in hair extensions and education. I am known for my color and hair extension transformations. I think what sets me apart is my honesty, empathy, true passion for my work and probably this quirky, sassy, big ol personality. Being a hairstylist is so much more than hair for me. Helping people feel like the best version of themselves and watching their confidence glow up before my eyes is the most special and rewarding feeling.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid rocked the beauty industry hard, 2020 was a brutal year to say the least. Constant pivots, adapting, closings and reopenings, doing hair out of yards and apts, being on edge of inspectors stopping by and being fined for not doing whatever the latest regulation was. Being there for my clients while simultaneously trying to manage my own challenges. For me, I learned it was time to create a better work/life balance. More time to myself so that when I’m in the salon I am fully present, excited to be there, and ready to create.
