Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Duhame.
Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey there! I’m a native Angelino, born and raised in The Valley (great sushi). The aesthetic world is one I’ve been acutely aware of since childhood, I knew I wanted to do something where I would enjoy my days, make something beautiful and build relationships. All of this being wonderfully combined in hairstyling!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As an artist, the administrative side of small business ownership can be daunting… it takes a good bit of determination for me to structure and organize the type A side of things- I’de rather be playing with your hair. 🙂
Starting your own business certainly has its ups and downs, but when you have an intrinsic love for what you’re doing, it all comes together. I’ve been doing hair on the Eastside for 7 years, and love calling Los Feliz home.
Being in such a personal business, building relationships and a rapport with my clients has been the easiest and most rewarding side of the job by a mile.
My goal is always for you to just love your hair! Whether that means spending some extra time on a stying tutorial, suiting your color regimen to your budget, or cutting your hair intuitively to enhance natural texture (hello, curls!).
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do wearable haircuts to make you feel amazing with your airdried texture or minimal styling. I SO believe in emphasizing ones natural beauty and my color reflects that as well. I’m most versed in blonding, ranging from bright, bright! to super blended balayage…
I view part of my job as creating a place for people to feel truly at ease, heard and comfortable. The time someone spends in my chair is all theirs, for whatever they need.
In light of that, I offer the option for a Silent Appointment.
If a client prefers to take some time out for themselves without much chit chat, they can book a “Silent Appointment”. We do a thorough consultation and then settle into a quite experience- everyone is welcome, as they are.
My 5 year old Yellow Lab, Mabel, is my favorite blonde, she accompanies me to the salon on the daily!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Hard one! My childhood was quite idyllic, a bunch of kids on my suburban street- all still friends, weekend hikes in the San Gabriel Mountains, and a few child actor moments (hilariously an LA cliché). A standout memory was one of my first times on set doing a modeling job, I was 4 years old. I vividly remember the feeling of sitting in the hair and makeup chair with my eyes closed, LOVING getting my hair done. I was a notorious tomboy, so this moment was a rarity, but there was something about the atmosphere that made me super zen- maybe an inspiration moment!
