Meet Makeup Artist Brianna Macias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Macias.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Let me start off by saying that I can’t imagine living out any other dream except for this one and I’m so grateful for every person who has supported me throughout the years especially my family…

Family Inspired Me. There are several artists in the family, it just runs in our blood and we express our creativity in so many different ways which is so beautiful to me. My family has always inspired me but I would get frustrated because I didn’t know how I could use my artistic abilities and be happy. Until I picked up a makeup brush – then I knew. However, it took a while for me to get there because I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup even through High School (I laugh now because naturally I would rebel and become a Makeup Artist). Then I started doing dance and show choir so I had no choice but to do my own makeup for shows. So my friends would ask me to come earlier so I can do their makeup too (my first “clients”). It also helped that I grew up watching my mom do her own makeup and I could sit there for hours, just mesmerized.

Family Supported Me. After high school, I would always talk about my dream of becoming a Makeup Artist but was too nervous to just start my career in makeup. So one day my sister, aunt & friend surprised me by buying makeup staple items for my kit and business cards. It pushed me to follow that fire inside and I had the best supporters there to guide me. Slowly, I started booking for special events like prom but still did not feel fulfilled in this new venture.

Family Assisted Me. Shortly after that “slump,” a friend asked me to do makeup for her wedding. I almost said no because “bridal is not my thing” but instead I said yes on a whim and it completely changed my life. My sister assisted me and she did hair as well so it made me feel so much more at ease. THIS is what I was destined to do. To be surrounded by love stories and create looks that make brides feel the best versions of themselves. After that I never had a doubt about where this makeup career would take me. The rest is history!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing the business was scary at first but I believe that if you put out great energy and provide great services then work will come to you – and it did. I am so blessed with loyal clients who truly believe in me and send me referrals almost daily. I wouldn’t be here without them and I make sure I remind them of that all of the time.

Just like any other industry, a challenge we all go through is how we measure success.

Are we fulfilling supply and demand, are we marketing enough, etc. At the end of the day, we are only successful if we are happy. I always make sure that I am still happy when I set that alarm for 4am to get to a wedding in LA. If I am happy, I am going to give my all and the end result will be a pleased client. Success is people speaking highly of you when you’re not in the room. They get nothing in return for doing that but they do it anyway because you made them look & feel so good they felt the need to shout it from the rooftops – that is success.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I offer on-location makeup services for special events, best-known for weddings, in Orange County and surrounding counties. Clients that reach out and book me know that they will receive a passionate artist who is punctual, cares about creating THEIR perfect look and will provide positive energy for a stress-free day! How do they know this; because of word-of-mouth and reviews! That is what I am most proud of, that I have created a brand based on passion and it speaks for itself. It’s not just an appointment with me, it’s an experience!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Of course I have so many favorites but I’ll never forget what my grandpa did for my sister and I. He made us a real playhouse – I’m talking life-size with laminate flooring, real roof, etc. He didn’t buy one from the store…he built it with his own hands after his 12+hr workdays from Construction! It was my absolute favorite place to hang out. His work ethic is the reason why I hustle the way I do!
