Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Pagan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a native of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, I traveled to the US in 2010 to pursue my passion Photography.
I have over ten years of experience in Photography, Multimedia, Social Media, Styling, Talent Managing and Creative Direction.
I arrived to Boston from Puerto Rico in 2010 to study Photojournalism, I had a photography class and fell in love with lighting and photography. And ever since I’ve been focusing on only that.
After graduating, I gained a strong background in Fine Arts and a Major in Photojournalism. I graduated in May of 2014 from Boston University. And have been published both locally and internationally in Elle USA, Nylon Japan, Vogue Italia, Playboy and Elle China.
After being in Boston for five years, I traveled to Los Angeles and at the beginning it was so tough, I had two jobs while trying to book campaigns or even small photography jobs, I was homeless at some point as well but never gave up because I trusted my journey and myself.
But I finally started living my dream my first big campaign was for Frank Body a brand from Australia and that changed my life. The brand spread the word about my work and thanks to that, I worked with so many Australian brands like Bali Body, The 5th and Nice Martin. After that, I traveled from Cuba to my home town Puerto Rico to do campaigns from brands all over the world.
I have my own group of talent which I use in all my campaigns. I also style and produce all of my photoshoots. And right now, I’ve done successfully over 98 campaigns.
I’m grateful for all my opportunities and my journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has been a lot of struggles while trying to be in the US. I left my home Puerto Rico with only $2,000 to go study to Boston that is very expensive. I had to work while studying and it was such a struggle. I’ve been homeless while in LA. And worked two jobs to be able to stay in Los Angeles my first year.
But I got on my feet and continued to pursue my dreams.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do styling, photography, creative direction and scouting.
I have loyal clients that have been there for me for over five years, what sets me apart is how I work with clients, I always try to make them as happy as possible so they come back and the majority always do. Also, I deliver the images in a day or two edited so they also love the quickness.
I also can shoot at any time of day from that harsh light of 12 in the afternoon to night time. I can figure out lighting very quick And can be very creative with it.
I’m known by doing Commercial Fashion work and my styling.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come, How proud I’ve made my family and how much I’ve grown personally and artistically.
