Exploring Life & Business with Matthew McIvor of Proudly Serving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew McIvor.

Hi Matthew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When COVID hit, our hospitality-based PR firm took a huge hit. After spending several months going through our savings, I decided to focus on something I knew a bit about; burgers. I began testing out recipes to try and create the ideal flavor profile and after several variations, the PS burger was born.

I then decided to create a pop up in my driveway which became popular very quickly. From there, I headed out around town with a very minimal setup and from there, the word spread fast.

I knew if I wanted to make this a real success, I needed the help of someone much more skilled than me when it comes to kitchen experience. I called chef Kevin Malone who I worked with in the past and that is truly where Proudly Serving took off.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Many, many struggles but our food is liked by so many that it sort of masked many of the issues we dealt with. Wind was a big issue when we first began. We had to cancel several pop ups because of it.

Stuffing our cars with cooking equipment every week is a challenge all unto itself. Running out of propane during service was definitely a fun obstacle. Way too many more to list but yes, struggles were a part of the growing process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Proudly Serving?
We are simply a smash burger concept that does things very precise and without too much unnecessary fluff. Our menu is straight to the point but we bring years of experience which helps separate us from others.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I follow a few motivational speakers and entrepreneurs but that is about it.
