Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Carrier.
Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve had an appreciation for art and making things as early as childhood. That love of making things for myself and others never left me. Art and creating became therapy throughout rough times. And just as so many others during the pandemic, I dipped into a new form of creativity to escape reality. Rosamond Street is a place I created in my imagination that is full of color and combines elements of places I’ve seen or imagined that bring me joy. The name Rosamond belongs to my late grandmother, who herself was a wonderful painter.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m completely new to jewelry-making, only having started this past year. It’s definitely not been a smooth road or instant success. But most makers, including myself, have such love and passion for what they do that they ride those waves–How can you really stop doing what you love? I first started making jewelry with polymer clay, but I found that medium wasn’t the best fit for my personality. I had difficulty translating my ideas. Then I discovered laser-cutting at the school I worked for at the time and immediately loved it. I found it easier to translate my ideas via graphic design. A personal struggle I’ll share is that I suffer from an anxiety disorder that robs me of a lot of energy, including creative energy. Trying to find the time and energy after returning to work from lockdown has been difficult. However, I found it important for myself to continue, so I recently transitioned into part-time secular work in order to invest more time in my art.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make fun and colorful acrylic jewelry and accessories with vast hypoallergenic options. I love so many styles and have so many interests that I’ll often create something that seems out of left field, but I’m really just being true to myself. I’m not a one-trick pony and I think my versatility sets me apart and is an extension of my personality and brand. I’m most proud that I was able to teach myself how to operate a laser cutter in order to bring my ideas to life. Learning software and how to use machinery can be very technical, a skill I don’t always feel I excel at.
How do you think about happiness?
Sun, travel, water, art, love, laughter, fashion. I absolutely need most of these things. The others are just the icing on the cake of life. But when a client appreciates and shares your art with the world, it’s next-level. Bringing others joy brings me joy in return.
